I haven't played it even though I bought it since realase day. I have played HL1 but never got into playing the rest of the games. I'd like to get into it finally.

I do own hl2, ep1 and ep2. Should I install fake factorys cinematic mod?

It says to own the games and unlocked. How do I unlock it? I cannot find anywhere that explains how.

I just bought the Orange box this weekend, and I gotta say HL2 is great. It reminded me of Portal 2 (or should I say looking back on Portal 2 it seems like HL2?) but with more FPS action and shooting fun. Haven't touched ep1, 2, or lost coast yet but I have high expectations for all of them. But make sure to turn off the "aim assist" in the options before you start playing.

As far as mods or anything goes I haven't messed with it yet...awesome game just out of the box.

Ciny mod is fun, pretty massive though.

I'd do a full run of the series if you are new to Half Life. The first 1 really sets the style and background for the whole series. You get to fight in Zen as well which is not featured at all in HL2.

HL2 Lost Coast is just a tech demo for HDR lighting and showing off some HL1 Soldier rock repelling action. It is nice, but not really part of the story line.

All great and gives you hours/days of gameplay.

I'm so jealous of you getting to go through it all for the first time. I held off on Episode 2 for a complete two years after release because I knew that Episode 3/HL3 would be eons away.

I would personally advise that you play through them once unmodified. The various mods I tried were jarring in one way or another.

I played through each game when they came out (HL2 + EP1 and 2), and haven't touched them since. Currently waiting for the Cinematic mod to download. 11GB?! Damn!

I could never really get into HL1. Loved HL2 and the EP's to hell though.

I have been meaning to do the same, last time I played it was on my crappy laptop at the absolute lowest settings, with maximum of 30 or 40 fps.

It should be a whole new experience with my current rig

Probably my second favorite game of all time, just after Stalker SoC. I've played it at least 4 times through over the years.

All I can say is ... you're in for a treat. IMHO playing HL is not needed for enjoying HL2 ... I can say that cause I've never played it, but still loved the hell out of HL2

I tried but it just looks too crappy, didn't get far.

Episode 2 is also really awesome, and Episode 1 is still fun but doesn't have quite the excitement level of the original and Ep 2.

The Cinematic Mods for the games are cool, but should probably be saved for a later run-through.
