It sounds like you want to be talked out of buying an expensive keyboard. If that's really the case, don't let anyone make you think you need it.

However, if you do want to give a good keyboard a try I strongly suggest buying a mechanical. A fancy rubberdome is only marginally better than a cheap one and mechanical keyboards feel very different. If you're worried about losing money, buy used. If you don't like it, you can always resell it with minimal losses, since mechanical keyboards have high resale value.

In case you're wondering, I had the same question about 7 months ago and finally decided to try a mechanical keyboard. Since that time I have purchased 5 different ones and resold 2 of them. I wouldn't consider going back to typing on a rubberdome.

I bought a WASD custom with cherry red switches and switch dampeners. No clicks but it's solid to type on.

Doesn't have backlighting or macro keys, but I didn't want those features in a keyboard anyways. Granted it wasn't a cheap purchase, but it's going to last me a long time.

absolutely love my logitech G-15, mostly for the LCD screen on it and the multitude of plug-ins that display on it. It's how I monitor everything from CPU and GPU temps to who is talking in ventrillo.

Well first off, it's more that I'm sceptical of buying a fancy keyboard, but I think i'll probably go with your advice and buy a cheap mechanical. I read up on them a bit, and the reviews seem generally good.

Also, wrong forum, but I don't suppose you know if mice are worth the money? I found a 3000 dpi for around 20 euro, so would that be good?

There's more to a gaming mouse than DPI. I'd suggest you go to the section for mice. The "perfect" mouse for you depends on your needs and preferences, DPI is just a very small part of the puzzle.

I have an Azio Levetron Mech4 Mechanical gaming keyboard and I absolutely LOVE it. They're coming out with a 2.0 version in the summer with LED backlighting and I will be getting that as well. I also have a R.A.T. 7 that I really enjoy, because of its awesome looks and customization options.

I agree completely, although DPI does matter, especially if you've ever got used to high-DPI mice. I've been using mice with over 4000 DPI for a while now and I can't tolerate slower and less precise mice. But any mouse can have a high DPI. What you've got to look for is comfort, reliability and tracking. Comfort is really going to be down to how you hold the mouse, the size of your hands etc. as for reliability, you'll just have to look around to see if people have had any issues with whatever mouse you're looking at. As for tracking, read reviews and owners thoughts! Make sure you get one that has a good sensor!

High DPI doesn't make a mouse more "precise". In fact, it can be quite the opposite with specific sensors, their limitations, and higher polling rate.

Just a big misconception introduced by couple manufactures that didn't bother explaining things through. Thus the consumer went towards anything with a bigger number...

Can you gain precision by using a higher DPI setting? Yes of course, but it's more to do with the game engine rather than what the mouse is capable of.

That's why I've stuck with my trusty MX518/G400 all these years. All those so called high DPI laser mice out there are a joke.
