FX4100 M5A78L-M LX V2 @ 4GHz

Hi everyone.

Im after a little help i have read up on the bulldozer overclocking guide but still abit confused.

I have a fx4100 with a stock cooler, M5A78L-M LX V2 (125W CPU support) on latest BIOS, 700W 80+ PSU and 2x 4gb 1333 kingston ram. I am informed by asus this board can handle around a 10% overclock ~4ghz (which is what im aiming for).

Under the advanced menu - jumperfree config I have
cpu overclocking - auto
cpu overvoltage - auto
cpu nb frequency - auto
cpu ratio - 20x - 4000mhz

turbo mode - disabled

cpu config
- cool n quiet - disabled
- c1e support - disabled
- advanced clock calivabration - disabled

power menu
suspend mode - auto
acpi 2.0 support - enabled
acpi apic support - enabled

apm config - disabled
cpu q fan function - disabled

The system reboots fine but when its from a cold boot it just says "overclock failed" on the post screen and resets the speed. The only way i can stop this from happening is reenabling the turbo mode.

any help would be greatful.

I would highly recomend you NOT!!!!! over clock on that board its a 3+1 phase board and has a very high failuer rate when over clocked

yes you can over clock it but then it becomes a question of how long it will last and what other componeats it will take with it when it dose go

would the Gigabyte 970-D3 be ok for that kinda of overclock? they have a 4+1 power.

If your going to buy new board you may as well have ago to 4GHZ with that board .
Very unlightly to go pop at 4GHZ on 4100 rolleyes.gif

Add some V core

The 970A-D3 still has no VRM cooling, which will be a problem... And don't be fooled by 125w support stated on this "v2", v2 means nothing if the VRM setup stays the same and this board should have the 95w tdp limit like the original m5a78l-m lx.

that looks a nice board looking around i should expect around 4.5-4.6ghz if i use a decent cooler like the 212 hyper evo or freezer 13?
