BF3 random, constand FPS drop with hd 6950 crossfire

Thread Starter
Hello guys,

I recently added another 6950 to my rig... I tried playing crysis 2 at max settings with all the texs and tess and it plays very smoothly. But I tried BF3 and I get a lot of frames drop at ultra and high settings. I dissabled AA and it doesn't help much. My cards are the 1g version. I only play at 1080p so I choose the 1gb 'cuz I thought I didn't need more VRAM...

What could be causing the problem?

Thanks a lot!

BF3 Uses more than 1gb vram at 1080p

Yea, i think the 1gb is holding you back in this case.. Mine uses 1.7gb at times in bf3.

If you install msi afterburner, then enable the osd
Show memory usage
Then tweak the settings while watching memory usage

Probably the textures would be taking the most vram. you can try dissabling SSAO also as that seems to drop FPS.

Thanks a lot! I'll try both things.

I can run BF3 on high on my 6950 with my AMD 955 with no issues, maybe it's CAP profiles or something else I doubt it's just the VRAM holding back.

I think it was my card. I switched places on the cards and it worked. I don't have any frame drops... Thanks to everyone.. rep+

1GB VRAM is fine for BF3 @1080p if you disable MSAA (for MP especially). I have two 1GB cards. You can lower texture quality as well btw.
