Apparently Blizzard can only restore your account twice if you have been hacked, that's it!

That's a pretty large percentage.
One of the lauded advantages of Diablo III's always on-line DRM was that one would be able to join any sort of game without fear, as everything is supposed to be Battlenet server side.

I am pretty sure I got hacked. They stole my best item, but that is pretty much it. It was just a spell book, but it was definitely the best item in my inventory. Otherwise, I was in the same area I was before, and all my other equips were there.

Maybe I didn't get hacked and I accidently dropped the book myself, but a seriously doubt it, since it was equipped on me.

Oh well, that was at best 3k gone.

Blizzard has made no official announcement pertaining to the alleged account hacking, so this probably isn't actually happening...

With the implication that since this is all probably just hot air, players absolutely don't need to go change their passwords in the event that the hacking is occurring and Blizzard simply hasn't told us yet, because major companies always inform us about security issues and how to resolve them as soon as they are aware of them. Except, of course, for Sony. And Apple. But other than those two, we should absolutely trust that unless there is an official announcement, we are completely safe and no sensible precautions are necessary because everything is on their servers.

I may have extrapolated a little.

Haven't gotten hacked yet, but I did take a error 3007 to the knees.

lol, you forgot valve, but i actually like that they owned up to it, and fast, and they actually know what encryption and salting is, and fix it too xP

but honestly, this is like the government, or corporations, or anything that has to respond to 2 groups of people "clients" aka us and "owners" aka the guys that are on their 20m$ yacht and have no clue what WoW or D3 is, i´m pretty sure they are more inclined to speak the truth to those guys, than us,because they are the bosses

I read the whole thread and it appears two people were hacked.

If this is a result of bad coding that makes it easy to spoof sessions, then Blizzard has just lost a great deal of credibility. If they want to confront players and annoy them with constant on DRM and lag and disconnects for a game that could, at the very least, have an off-line mode, then they better offer a decent service that makes people feel happy and safe. From what it seems they are successfully managing to not offer either one of those.

Don't these people read the interviews Gabe Newell gives ? Put the emphasis on a good service, DRM is just part of the package, make it so that it annoys people the least amount possible, don't deliberately go against your fans by doing completely unnecessary things. Do extensive testing, offer good service, don't overdo DRM!

Anyway I'm loving the game and imo it blows PoE and Torchlight out of the water, it's really not even close. Now that's not to say I think this is some 10/10 game or anything. I absolutely despise a few things about the game but none of them make it unplayable or no fun at all.

Hacking will always happen with anything that requires a connection, nothing you do will ever stop it completely, so for me I read an article like this and I say to myself "so what?"

All I want from Blizzard is a better battle.net system. This modern take on it is so many steps backwards from even Diablo 1's battle.net days, it's pathetic.

people here don't realize that there is no such thing as absolute security, everything can be hacked, are you saying that there should be no security at all because you know, it can be hacked anyway, another thing is, there should be no police because crimes still exist.

i,for one, am not for "no security" in fact i am here to warn people of possible security breaches, but i find it odd, when i talk to people on online forums such as this, and some people reinstalled their operating system, updated, installed their AV/malware suite, firewalls, and then diablo 3, played, and still get hacked, without downloading anything shady, or torrents, or nothing of the sort, just got hacked, and some of these people have authenticators, and some of these people have high rep and trader reputation of all sorts, and i find it hard to believe, these people would lie about their circumstances, i DO however believe in human error, but it is not clear as to which human is to blame just yet, the user, or some programmer that was up to 5am doing a couple more lines of code to meet a deadline

there's even been talk of having the sms alert messages not go off, and a "dial in" system not doing anything either (this could be false as i left before i heard of this system, so don't castrate me for the innaccuracy)
