Sandy or Ivy Bridge build? - Page 2

A the end of the day, a 3570k is going to be faster than a 2500k whether by 1% or 100% it doesn't matter, it's still faster. What does matter is that your getting a faster processor for the same money that is going to consume a little less power, has a better imc, lower stock temps, pci-e 3.0. If your OC temps are really bugging you, take the ihs off and chuck your cooler straight onto the die.

Cheers

Go for Ivy since its newer tech.

PCIE 3.0 and "native" USB3.0 don't really mean anything right now, but it's daft not to get the latest. I've got my 2500k nicely at 4.5ghz which seems to be average. Ivy does the same no probs too.

Eitherway you're going to be happy!

Why buy an older processor... The 3570k will at least equal the 2500k in raw performance, plus it supports lucid mvp, better RAM speeds, uses less power and has pci-e 3.0... whats not to like?

Go for Ivy is my opinion. An i5 3570K is only 40$ more expensive than an i5 2500K, provides better performance at stock speeds, is more power efficient and provides native support for the latest technologies such as PCI-E 3.0, USB3.0 and 3D.
And on top of that I couldn't agree more with Klinkey. Why go for something old(er) when you can go for the same for almost the same price?

+1 for Ivy

Others have pretty well covered it. Even if it performed exactly the same as the 2500k, the additional features (that Klinkey pointed out) are all just gravy.

In my experience, you'll never regret paying the extra $40 for future proofing.

That's quite big compared to our prices locally, the i5-3570k is only a little bit less than $20.

That's strange, you're the first to ever tell me that 256GB is way too much. Come to think of it, I've used up half of that d/t games/programs on my current SSD.

Which is why I was looking at getting the 2500K. Sure it's a generation old, but it still performs very well to this date.
