2x 480GTX, GPU Water Cooling only?

Thread Starter
Hi, I'm interested in water cooling x2 480GTX I have.
Two main problems, I have no idea what to do or where to really start.
I do know I want a simple and clean set up, the more simple the better (low space-taking pump, easy to manage).

Secondly, space, I'm water cooling instead of air cooling because most aftermarket air cooling take up too much space.
- I have a Corsair 650D
- A motherboard where two stock 480GTX won't fit.

I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of performance (just a little) for space saving.

Anyone wanna point in a general direction?

I have a 650D here and it can hold a dual 120 up top fine. If you really wanted to save space you could technically run the two on one little 1x120mm fan at the back of the case. But seeing as the cards can get rather hot under stress I would not go with anything less than a 2x120mm rad.

Here is an example of one way to do it as well as the cpu:
http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=94403

x1 Swiftech MCR-220-QP or XSPC RS240
x2 120mm fans i.e. Xinrulian 1650s
x6 feet tubing, either 3/8 x 5/8 or 1/2 x 3/4"
x1 XSPC D5 Bay Res
x1 MCP655 pump
x4 Barbs (3/8" ID or 1/2" ID depending on tubing choice)
x4 clamps plastic or metal

After that is where you can get fancy with an SLI bridge, fillport, what have you.
For your blocks you can either do two full coverage, or x2 mcw82. You need to make sure to cool all the memory chips using something like Enzotech BMR-C1. I happen to have a new Heatkiller GTX 480 block here, but not two.

I'd suggest steering clear of anything EK nickel, as there are abundant complaints abound regarding flaking, corrosion, and cracking of plexi.

Why won't the 480"s fit?

Get a better Rad. The RS is brass so it does not transfer heat as well as all the other rads out there. Get the EX series with the 1600RPM fans.

Do you have a budget? Sidewinders list is nice but the D5 dual bay res and 655 pump is pricey.

His PCIE slots are probably too close so he has to go down to single slot cooling.

Thanks for replying so quickly.

My PCI-E slots are basically spaced by 1 PCI, so there's only that much space, if I were to put two 480GTX in my board, one fan wouldn't be able to intake air.

The thing is I'm interested in ONLY the GPU cooling.
This is more 650D specific but can I only run a 200MM Radiator with 2x480GTX? I really wanna use least amount of tubing and as neat as possible.

My budget is around $250. Is that completely unreasonably low?

Considering that you are on a budget, you should look into doing "The Mod" with Antec Kuhlers, it'll cost you a lot less than a custom loop, and will give you similar performance.

If you go used parts and checkout OCN marketplace you can get a reasonable setup with good parts on the cheap if you don't mind waiting to get the parts slowly as that is what I did to save money.

I actually did this, and could afford to make a 2 GPU+1 CPU loop for my sig rig, and even splurged a bit on a CPU-only loop for my HTPC.

There are good deals for used gear out there.
