5870s for sheer GPU power.

6870s if you play Dx11 games alot, although I'm not sure if the 6870s outperform the 5870 in Dx11... all I know is, the newer gen improved it.

6870 and 5870 exchange hits at each other. They are about equal cards, but the 6870 can pull ahead with high tessellation games (AKA, newer games).

BUT 2 5870s will overpower a 6870 by quite a bit. So use the 5870s.

If driver problems or heat issues occur, then put back in the 6870.

Why not sell those 5870's and that 6870 and get a 7970 ? You'd smash everything out there for a small fee if not $0
post #15 of 32
6870 CF, they scale much better and it's newer tech. 5870 is getting old, poor DX11 performance, and it isn't MUCH faster then a 6870. Actually, its slower or on par with a 6950 which isn't that much better than a 6870.

hmm are you even running the fans past 40% or are the cards just really close to each other and have no room to breathe?

5870s tend to sell in the $150-$175 range. Talk to DarkRyder here on the forums, I think he is still buying 58xx series cards for BOINC machines.

cards are as far as possible from each other 4 inches,i just dusted them but have not played games, the idle went down 7c.i went to my hardware story to pickup some precision screw drivers i was thinking about putting on new thermal paste because the cards are like 2-3 years old,do you think that will help? fans are on the mid 30% while gaming, idle 25%

I dusted the card and it dropped about 5c max and idle temps, should i go and re apply thermal paste?
