Very High Temps on GTX 690 Quad Sli

So I have an Alienware Aurora ALX chasis (cuz Area 51s arent available where i live) and have two gtx 690s installed in quad sli with a 990X EXTREME overclocked (BUT WATERCOOLED) TO 4.5 Ghz. Thing is the darn chasis is too small so i have to have them in corresponding slots which means little gap (if at all) between the cards. So the GPU1 and GPU2 temps are awesome (maxing out even unigine for over 15 mins at 75-78) but GPU3 and GPU4 temps are insane - maxing out at 98!!!! all this with the darn side panel removed (with it in place they were reaching100 and probably more (as MSI afternurner doesnt record beyond 100). Point is there is no space for watercooling these beasts. And there are plenty of people with quad sli 680s running their rigs with air cooling and little to no space between their cards - so how come my cards reach such insane temps.

THEY ARE NOT OVERCLOCKED. Is this normal???? i would love to be able to shut the chasis and hence reduce sound levels but at this rate even BF3 after around 30 minutes makes 3 and 4 reach 100 degrees!!!! is there something wrong with my card???

That is getting too hot... This is what I would do. Use one of the 690's, sell the other, profit? unless your using 6 screens you do not "need" 2 690's. The temps are just too much.

I am an addict. So no chance i can do that. Any solutions to reducing the temps???? or should i just continue running the ****ers till they die??????

New case with better airflow or water cool
post #5 of 51
You need a motherboard with slots further apart and a bigger case. No other way around it other than watercooling them both.

Uhm... Get a better case maybe? A good case with high airflow.

Cooler Master's HAF lines are pretty decent as well as Antec's P280, 1100 and so on.

Also with a new case you'll get better cable management. Cable management also plays a big role in airflow and temps.

GET A BETTER CASE. Not that AW crap. HAF X, Cosmos S II. Would be much better to watercool with a case labs or LittleDevil case.

Have you manually adjusted the fan profiles?

Although i do agree with the other members, you do need a better case. Bit unsure why you blew that much money on GPU's and neglected the obvious.

This is the sort of spacing that is ideal

Find a way to improve cable management and then mod a fan to be put on top of the cards. Also the next step would be to water cool and get a better case.

Those poor 690's. You really shouldn't sandwich dual gpu cards like that.

Bigger case + spacing out the cards will help.
