Cheapest card for 2560x1600?

Thread Starter
In terms of graphic processing power and memory, what's the cheapest card from either camp that I would need to run these games maxed out? Thinking about a Radeon 7870 but it seems like Nvidia is better suited for the games I listed?

Games I play:
Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, Mass Effect 3, Civ V.

I'm an nvidia fan but 7870, 7970 i do know will run D3 and mass effect 3 perfectly fine. But people will start coming in here recommending 670's and talking about drivers soon.

Benchmarks:
Diablo III http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/diablo-iii-performance-benchmark,3195-5.html
Mass Effect 3 http://www.techspot.com/review/507-mass-effect-3-performance-test/page4.html
Starcraft 2 http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7870-review-benchmark,3148-14.html
Civilization V (outdated) http://www.techspot.com/review/320-civilization-v-performance/page9.html

Based on those results, I would personally recommend a 7850 2GB. It should produce 60+ fps most of the time. The 7870 is priced too close to the 7950 for it to be worthwhile. If you want a card that will max out more intensive game a 7950 or 670 are the best priced cards.

Games I play:
Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, Mass Effect 3, Civ V

Cheapest card to play those games is a HD 7850. Get a HD 7850 for USD 250 and clock it to 1050 in AMD CCC. You will get close to HD 7870 performance thumb.gif

Say what? Priced too close to eachother? That either means you can get a 7950 for very cheap or pay waaay too much for a 6870. An HD6870 is 155 euros http://www.alternate.nl/html/product/SAPPHIRE/HD6870_(11179-09-20G)/834212/?tk=7&lk=4029

and a 7950 is 400 euros http://www.alternate.nl/html/product/SAPPHIRE/HD_7950_(11196-01-40G)/1004769/?tk=7&lk=4031

The Only HD6870 2GB is 239 but that is a complete waste of money. You can easily get a HD6950 2GB for that and if you spend that kind of money the HD7850 is the best value for money in the current gen. Priced between 210 and 250 euros and performing slightly better than a GTX570.

A 1GB card is fairly borderline for 2560x1600 which is why I didn't mention it. The 6950 2GB has been succeeded by the 7850 2GB, and the 7850 2GB, 7870 2GB and 7950 3GB are priced $250, $330 and $380 respectively (prices from newegg).

Im using a pair of 480's for 2560 x 1440, I can run BF3 @ Ultra settings to give an idea of performance.. 480's can be found really cheap now..

I agree but what you said was:

And I cannot imagine a 6870 2GB being as expensive as a 7950. That would be crazy pricing.
