Nearly double the cores of a 680 (confirmed by die shot) + architecture improvements + matured 28nm process... not even remotely unreasonable.

*IF* this is going to be the real performance (obviously this is just a guesstimate), then AMD has a big problem.

Has ATI/AMD ever made a 500mm^2+ die? Cause if they have no experience doing so, then they have zero chance at coming anywhere close to these numbers (if in fact this is how powerful the gk110 will be).

Nah if this is all true what AMD does is continue to refine GCN. Let's say 30% improvement. Then they price it like they priced the 6970. For those that don't want to pay the 600+ dollars a GPU like this would likely cost it will be a nice alternative. There's no real crisis here for AMD because at the end of the day nobody really buys expensive gaming GPUs except for people like us. As I've said a million times over the real money is made with the 560 tis and 7850s of the world.

Lolno. AMD's small die strategy. Read about it.

15% lower performance is a best case scenario for AMD... keep in mind that they're already behind.

remember x2900xt ? im not sure about its die size but it had 512bit bus bandwith. still it failed to compete with 8800 GTX ... main reasons? cuda core much more efficient and nvidia had better driver optimization... AMD need to fix this problem... everyone troll about this stuff (bad driver,etc)
