I just looked it up that was 420mm^2 and I think the 8800gtx was even bigger, so I really don't think they have a chance at being close to the top after the revision. But that is nothing new.....nvidia is always top and as such has a higher price point with their flagship. It's been a long time since AMD has been on top.

It's been a long time since AMD has tried to be on top as well. This is the part people are missing when they discuss the AMD/Nvidia thing.

I mean they were pretty clear when the 4800 series came out that there were no longer going to compete for the high end performance crown. I think what happened though is the 7900 series came out and people sort of forgot. Number one because the price was so high and number two because they came closer this generation then they have in the last couple and arguabally when overclocked actually won.

Well we actually won't know that for certain until the gtx 680's with UNLOCKED VOLTAGE control are realeased. I mean kingpin got a gtx 680 to 1400mhz on AIR with the STOCK COOLER just with voltage control, just think what you could do with water + voltage control.

(Not trying to argue, just trying to point this out.)

But I do agree that this is the closest AMD has been, but only because the gk100 was scrapped because they either couldn't get enough yields or that the gk104 could compete so there was no need. (Probably a yield problem is why they had to realease the gk104 as the gtx 680 IMHO)

Don't worry I'm not going to argue with you about performance either. Like I said it is certainly an arguable point from both sides.

My main point was just that in relation to the GK110 (if it exists) there is certainly a lot of room for AMD to manuever. They will (or would be best served) go back to their recent strategy of offering cards with slightly lower performance for a much lower price. And looking into the future both companies are easily capable of coming out with another home run type arch. Both have done it before and both will probabaly do it again.

Short and simple, pr0nz.
I was exaggerating. I meant this card will have such good performance that when it starts to do bad, DirectX 12 (as it is a DX 11 card) will be out and it's performance won't be justified so much. I just meant this card will last TOO long. tongue.gif

Just want to point out that GK110 is very much real. NV GK110 whitepaper smile.gif

No official info about GeForce parts at this point of course.

You know thinking about all these future gpu's makes me wonder, how long until there is a triple gpu card? (Like a gtx 690, but with 3 gpus instead of just 2)
