Looking for a laptop 15" or below - light strong good battery life UNLIMITED BUDGET - SSD 256gb+ UNDER 3.5kg

Hi guys, I basically want an ultra-portable laptop with the best CPU/GPU I can get.

I have no preference be it Intel/Amd/nVidia whatever.

However I have some requirements.

1.

14" or below 900x1600p minimum resolution.

>14" 1080p1920p

2.

Under 3.5 kg is 100%, this is something I deem as necessary.

However anything under 2.5kg is PERFECT as it's so easy to carry and not noticeable at ALL.

3.

Battery life on reasonable brightness with a word document open needs to be 4 hours I'm used to 6-12 hours atm depending on battery and I end up using it to 20%, I need this as I use it often outdoors, in school/work at night sometimes so 4+ at the wall is a MINIMUM. By factory specs it'll have to say 5+ hours because they always lie unless it's a review site/user smile.gif.

4.

Must have a dedicated GPU in the form of a dock or integrated. I would like it to be able to play "basic" games when I'm away from my desktop, BF:3 on low/medium mw3 rolleyes.gif on medium/high, portal 2 maxed etc.

5.

Must have a 256gb ssd or more [512gb is a BONUS] (preferably a samsung 830).

That's it tbh.

Notes:

As thin/light as possible is always best.

I have NO BUDGET at all, find something in the specs for $4000 and I'll take it.

Also I currently have a sony vaio vpcz2 with a 6650m in a dock. The 6650m is under performing due a bandwidth limitation (thunderbolt is a 4x). I have the latest drivers etc.

The next sony vaio (specs released with a quad core ivy bridge cpu) has the same gpu re-badged and the same EXTERNAL DOCK which will have the same limitation so please don't recommend it to me.

Style is a + but function comes first.

Furthermore, I am aware of the Clevo 11.6" laptop and that is only available with a 768x1366 screen which is a TN panel. Furthermore this is horrendous as I need 900p or more for workspace (often do lots of things and I NEED screen real-estate).

An Ips screen is a +.

That's it guys, thanks a lot and +rep to any nice finds. Also I have no brand preferences AT ALL.

Thank you very much for your time smile.gif.

Check out the Dell XPS 15z. The top spec'd model has everything you seek. I have one myself and love it (see sig). It has the mid-range GT525M video card, but it can run BF3 quite easily with medium settings. It weighs in at 2.5 kg and is just under and inch thick. The only thing I didn't opt for was the 256 GB SSD because they were asking a lot for it. I went for a 500GB hybrid SSD, and it's plenty fast, cold boots in 20 seconds.

I'll take a look at it! Thanks a LOT!

I'll probably wait for an ivy bridge version along with an updated GPU to come out. It looks PERFECT.

Hows your battery life with that HDD?

Furthermore I know how fast it is I had an old laptop with the seagate hybrid drive, SMOKED any harddrive at booting which was my only "neigh" with them.

Thanks smile.gif.

Any others even better though tongue.gif?

Battery life is great, easily 6+ hours when configured correctly.

Check out the Dell Alienware laptops if you must have the latest tech. They have Ivy Bridge i7's and GT 600 series GPUs.

http://www.alienware.com/Landings/laptops.aspx

And I know Asus and MSI have similar models as well. No real experience with either, but I have gotten to use Asus laptops, which are nice and full-featured, but the case materials and construction doesn't feel as sturdy as Dell's chassis.

Have you had a look at any of the Clevo laptop models? I think they are re branded by Sager for the USA. In AU we have a few different retailers for them. Metabox being one of the primary.

The high end 15.6" could be a possible option but at 3.3kg it will probably fall out from your acceptable category. (clevo p150EM) sager NP9150
Standard specs on it are 15.6" 1920 x 1080 led display, 670m gtx, 3610QM, back-lit keyboard, 8gb ram (for some reason the AU version from my retailer has 16gb 1600mhz as the base memory) , 500gb hdd, comes to 1.4k.

Can be highly upgraded.. eg, nvidia gtx 675m or amd 7970m, i7 3920XM, 32gb 1600mhz ram 4x 8gb, 80gb intel msata, 480 - 600gb intel ssd, blu ray burner, ...But them specs would most likely make you cringe at the price tag attached and ill be honest i don't know what the battery would be like on the high spec systems like that. Thought i would mention anyway.
http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?page=product_customed&model_name=NP9150

Secondly
clevo WR150ER (sager NP6165)
nvidia 650m gtx, 15.6" 1920x1080 led display, can upgrade to a max of 3820QM (ivy), upto 16gb ram, 2x hdd bays same intel ssd possibility, dvd or blu ray, 2.6kg base WT. ill have to find a review on the battery i cant remember off the top of my head sorry. base model is just under 1k .
http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?page=product_customed&model_name=NP6165

Hope that helps a little. And sorry for the very messy paragraphs its 1.30am and im typing on a slow tablet (only touch screen). redface.gif

Edit: And i re read #1 14" ugh slightly confused is that the maximum size you are after?.... clevo have 110ER laptop 11.6 inch with a 650m gtx in it, same cpu upgrade options & ram, 1x hdd bay, (Sager NP 6110) http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.php?page=product_customed&model_name=NP6110
once again sorry im tird >< i will re read this in the morning and think what the hell O_o rolleyes.gif

I believe I have the perfect solution for you.

The MYTHLOGIC Pollux 1312. It is a customized version of the Clevo W25AES. You can get it with the new Core i7 3612QM, which is Ivy Bridge and Intel's first and only mobile quad core (4C/8T) CPU that has a 35W TDP.

It uses Nvidia Optimus with the GT 630M GPU (slightly better than GT525M). It is amazing. I just got it the other day. The laptop is 15" and you can get it with a 1080P display, which I did. I opted for matte and it's gorgeous. You can also select a 512GB Samsung 830 SSD for it. It's not an option, but if you e-mail them they can mod the BIOS to use DDR3L memory which operates at 1.3v rather than 1.5, I had this done myself.

I believe this is EXACTLY what you are looking for, it's amazing.

Optimus is really nice. The Nvidia GPU only kicks in for demanding graphics activities, and powers down 100% when it's not needed. Since I have this laptop myself, I can try to answer any questions you might have.

Here's the link:
http://www.mythlogic.com/configure.php?id=102

You can even order it without the OS if you have a copy yourself and save ~$100

I love the Intel 7-series chipset which has native USB3, no need for strange drivers for chipsets of a company you're not even sure will exist a month from now.

According to a review of an admittedly larger Asus laptop the Ivy Bridge is the way to go for battery life. And the Intel HD4000 does better than the latest Llano chipset (not Trinity, though) but you still need a dedicated GPU for high level gaming.
The two problems are the presently available capable GPUs are battery drainers in high level gaming.
The Asus suffers from no switchable graphics to extend battery usage, at least in the one reviewed, a 17 inch at about 2.5 kg.

Hey just trolling and dreaming and was thinking to myslef why the Samsung 830 over an 840/840 pro? Probably stupid question but if price isn't an big deal thought is throw it out there.
