PC freezing- please help

Thread Starter
Hi guys,
I have just OC'd my CPU and i ran Prime 95 for 20 hours and it passed.
But for some reason my PC just randomly freezes and I have to restart it with the power switch.
I ran HD tune, Memtest, Prime 95 and furmark and I got no Problems.
Just one thing, when i was Putting a new cpu cooler I noticed a slight black marking on the bottom of my cpu on the copper contacts.

My specs:
CPU: i7 3820 @ 4.3Ghz
Motherboard: P9X79 (BaseModel)
PSU: Corsair AX750
GPU: GIGABYTE GTX570 Overclocked (780MHz)
CPU cooler: Corsair H100
RAM: 16gb Kingston HyperX DDR3 1600Mhz (4x4GB)
HDD1: Seagtae 1TB 7200rpm 32mb (Boot Drive)
HDD2: Western Digital Caviar green "intellipower" 64mb

Anyone got any ideas, I am really confused because I eliminated all possibilities.

please reply

doesn't sound good, have you tried cleaning the black mark off? any damage on the socket?

i would try using contact cleaner and a q-tip maybe, it comes in an aerosol, it cleans and evaporates very quickly.

if your gonna clean electronics for one, make sure you unplug it and two use the highest lvl rubbing alcohol you can find.. i wouldnt recommend using the AS cleaning solution. i know there is lots of water in that solutions.

if your pc is still freezing.. reset your bios and see if the problem is the hardware or a bad overclock.

Isopropyl alcohol, the higher the percent the better. It will evaporate quickly and leave no residue. Coffee filter's are a cheap lint free cloth like material you can use to wipe with. *******Be gentle, no elbow grease should be used********
Lighter Fluid (like what you fill a zippo with, not butane) will work's amazing too and will leave no residue (its fast drying too)

Q-Tips are not lint free, use at your own discretion.

You can use the above method to clean any contact surface of an electrical component(under side of the CPU, Contact area of GPU's, and even works amazing for cleaning Thermal Interface Material). Hope this helps.
