DIABLO 3 my lvl 36 wizard is so weak, what am i doing wrong

Just started Act 1 Nightmare and I'm dying within 5 seconds yet it takes me like 3 minutes to kill even a single of the weakest monsters.
I've played with a few other wizards that are lower levels then me but are much more powerful.

My stats are ;

Strength 122
Dexterity 145
Intelligence 182
Vitality 182
Armour 599
DPS 26.10 (bad i know)

I hear it's all to do with Armour and items but i didn't really get any good drops on my normal play through and the merchants don't really sell anything worthwhile so what can i do?

Btw This is my first time playing this sort of game so sorry for being a noob.

Also i went searching on the auction bit but can't really afford anything which sucks.

Problem.

You should have gear with intelligence on it to say the least and a weapon with a high amount of +damage.

Imo, replay act 3+ till you get some better drops. I had ~350 dps starting nightmare

Dude, not even joking, my items suck, but even my lvl9 has higher DPS than you. You want +intelligence and +vitality items. Helps a lot.

Yeah, I had 3-4x as much intelligence as any other stat modifier so that's a big part of your problem. INT = Everything

Go to the Auction House good lord.

There are tons of items that are cheap, you just can't be lazy and have to look.

Try setting the item quality to Rare, and set the Maximum Buyout price to 2000, for example.

Then choose weapons or armor.

Probably because you are using items with strength,dexterity, and vitality. Vitality is a secondary stat for health, you want to focus on items with Intelligence...rolleyes.gif

For instance. My lvl 23 barbarian has 118 dps lol and he has 160 strength (primary stat) 30 dexterity, 40 intelligence, and 141 vitality. Its ok to have the stats you dont need if its gonna help you have more armor or something for just a little while, but you wanna focus on the primary stat.

Right now I'm using a 2h mace simply because the +damage on it is crazy high and my DPS went up threefold.

Weapon style doesn't matter really, only the stats. Though having a wand/wizard hat is always awesome.

i would suggest starting a new character, my lv 39 dh does 700 dps, you're too far behind
