Dell is pinning its hopes on new touchscreen products pegged to Windows 8's launch to boost the fortunes of its consumer products division.

First HP "we are going to be as cool as Apple!", now Dell's going to give it a shot.

I could be biased because I work for Dell, but I don't really see why every company wouldn't try to capitalize on the tablet market. Especially when Windows 8 looks like such a perfect fit for a touchscreen device. There could be some great tablets that come out with Windows 8. Just because Apple is dominating the tablet market at the moment doesn't mean that everyone else should just give up on it.

All power to ya, just make sure it's not prone to failure I have had bad luck with a couple Dell's in the past 2003-2005 era that has made me a little wary of the quality of the products they put out.
That was HP's issue they were going to compete with Apple and be just as Cool and Hip as Apple but the quality of their products were terrible. My sister had one HP laptop that lasted from 08 to 2010 for 800 dollars. So when they issued that statement they already had a negative reputation built up from it.

Personally though i still have no need for a tablet and don't own one.

yep I hear what you're saying man. There's no doubt that Apple is a juggernaut in the tablet market right now. There is no way anyone dethrones them without having top notch quality and performance to back it up.

I'm in the same boat as you though... I think the people who want tablets are a very niche market. With the rise of Ultrabooks that do everything that tablets can do and more, even faster, AND they weigh less than 3 lbs, I just don't see the practicality of a tablet that's gonna cost ~$300-$600
