[Wired] Combat Exoskeleton Marches Toward Afghanistan Deployment

Dial down the god-awful soundtrack and try to ignore the choppy camera work, but re-watch Lockheed Martin’s promo video depicting its two-year-old Human Universal Load Carrier exoskeleton. Because inside of the year, an improved version of this combat exoskeleton could be headed to Afghanistan for combat trials. That’s right: cyborg soldiers might, might just be months away from becoming a front-line reality.

I doubt any special forces would want to use it.... I would not want to be a guinea pig in combat situations or long excursions.
Once again...

Of course the military gets all the cool toys. I want this going into rehab centers primarily, I think it would do more work getting people into shape than pushing people past what they're capable of in prime condition.

maybe if you could run faster and jump higher. This thing looks like it would slow you down in a firefight. The least they could do is strap a GAT on there.

I believe you can disconnect within a few seconds by design.

The article did mention a crew-served weapon.

You can never have a portable real Gatling gun.... too much ammo, too much power.

I for one, can vouch that I would use this in a combat situation. A full loadout of gear is really heavy... and what the real lockheed martin promo video says about it is true, it takes the weight off of me, so that when I arrive at my "destination" I still have energy remaining to execute the mission.
Here is the real promo video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1CeBOWm67A
Notice how it is significantly less choppy...

Even as a Private during initial training, the equipment is really heavy, which is why we we'rent allowed to walk more than like half a mile at a time. And I know the equipment soldiers who are actually on duty use is much heavier. So yeah, this is probably not a run 60 mp/h and jump 10 feet vertical superhuman exoskeleton thing, but as others said, a way to be able to travel really far fully packed without getting tired.
