Exactly. They've done amazingly well all things considered.

AMD has no one to blame but themselves. The GloFlo fiasco providing all the evidence you need.

Intel did what they needed to do to become dominant. Don't hate on their swag just because AMD is/was run by dummies who wasted billions of dollars.

Processor development is a tens-of-billions-of-dollars a year industry. AMD doesn't make that much.

For those not familiar with how AMD got into the processor business in the 1st place, you should give this a read. It also goes into great detail on the AMD vs Intel legal dealings over the years, and more specifically the x86 legal battles.
http://jolt.law.harvard.edu/digest/patent/intel-and-the-x86-architecture-a-legal-perspective-2

Neither company is exactly "innocent", they've always done what they can to one up each other.

AMD did reverse engineer Intel's chips in the early days, and Intel has used shoddy tactics to gain market dominance.

This is as unbiased as it's going to get for both sides, if anything, this article doesn't paint Intel in a very good light.

AMD is going down it's own road and all indications are this is good for them and consumers. Intel can do their thing and see how it works out for them. Both companies have succeeded over the past 40+ years though Intel chose to resort to many illegal tactics in an effort to eliminate competition. With any luck some day Intel will get what they deserve for their crimes.

Bribing OEM's didn't produce a single transistor or design a single architecture. After all of this cheating and bribing, at the end of the day Intel designed flat-out amazing chips and that is the real reason for their dominance. I could understand if they were still producing crap like the original P4 but bribing off OEM's to sell them anyway. But the fact is Intel's engineering department designs and produces the most powerful processors on the planet regardless of what shenanigans their marketing department is up to....

..They did it during the Pentium 4 days, when AMD was ahead. It isn't the (main) reason AMD is behind now, they got caught with their pants down by Conroe pretty badly.

If you read the article above you will see intel crippled AMD's cash flow with lawsuits in the late 80's to early 90's. Then again with the whole paying computer manufacturers to only use intel. It also states AMD had like 50% market share until that point. Now tell me again how intel had nothing to do with it.

AMD innovates always have. Intel steals.

Did you miss the part where Intel got AMD into the Processor business?

Did you also miss the part where AMD reverse engineered Intel's processors? ( that doesn't sound like innovation to me )

Or, how about the part where AMD wanted to keep receiving Intel's products, so they could compete against Intel?

I posted that for people to get educated on EVERYTHING, and not for selective reading.

Though for the thread we're in, I knew certain people would only read parts that they are interested in, while ignoring everything else. I also noted that Intel has done shoddy things over the years, and the article covers all of it as well.

I didn't read the article yet but I'll say this. Any time there are corporate politics involved it is a safe bet both companies have done shady things. Microsoft has done the same thing that Intel did with PC manufactuerers and I see no one crying about that. The way I see it is it's a cut throat business world and if you ain't cheatin you ain't tryin. End of story.

They are designing decent processors... just their top end ones can't match Intel's top end.

Not to mention their funding is split between GPU and CPU.
