Ever hear of Phenom II?

Even an fx-8120/50 offers more bang for your buck than that 3960x lmao.

Found the original article. I have to admit it does look like Read is saying that theyre done with trying to outperform Intel in speed and performance.

http://www.businessweek.com/news/2012-05-15/amd-ceo-read-says-flexibility-trumps-speed-in-sales-race

Judging from the Tom's article, I thought he was just talking about laptops and APU's in which case it would make a lot of sense. But it looks like when you read the whole article that he's talking about not trying to compete with Intel period!

We knew this awhile back that AMD was not going to continue to compete with Intel its just not possible plus I don't think Financially they can compete either. IMO & Im sorry to say this but Intel cares more about the gamer then AMD does. It seems to me AMD cares for for the lower end users or server users more since its a bigger market & the Enthusiast market is just to small.

That is definitely something 'of the sort'. Putting CPU development on the backburner is the first step. It's just a matter of time before CPUs are no longer commercially viable for them. I give them 3-4 years.

What does it matter if they stay in the desktop market if they are admitting they aren't even going to try to compete with intel?

It does not matter if they leave the desktop market or not. The problem is they said they will no longer compete with intel thus meaning that Intel will as always pull ahead to make gaming for PC users superb while AMD continues to fall behind and gaming with an AMD chip will be mediocre at best.

What will you do Buy a mediocre AMD chip that performs OK for gaming or buy an Intel CPU that shreds gaming? AMD can stay in the desktop market all they want but if they are not pulling weight then They are not getting my money

They said they're not competing in performance, that doesn't mean they won't try to beat intel in the low to midrange price/performance. You don't need $1000 chip to play video games. And yes that is somewhat directed at your system.

I buy the best price/performance part at the time. Thus my 3570k and 6950. Prior to the 3570k was my Phenom II x6 1055t.

That's what you did anyways, you bought a mediocre Intel chip instead of buying the AMD or Intel chip that shreds games...

This thread is bias as heck. If benchmarks are your favorite game genre then yeah Intel is totally worth it. You can say what you want. I feel the Phenom II line was fairly strong for where it was priced.

If anything besides overclocking budget processors is your favorite game genre, Intel is totally worth it. AMD would be irrelevant to overclockers if it weren't for SNB/IVB's locked BCLK.
