core2quad may be older tech but I'd rather use them instead of i3 dualcores which go for about the same price.

You're entitled to your preference but the Q6600 wins pretty narrowly in things like file compression and video encoding while the i3 outperforms it in games, most of the time by quite a large margin.

I'd be using my i3 if my socket 1156 board's second PCI-E slot wasn't a 4x PCI-E 1.1 slot because, aside from the PCI-E bandwidth crippling my cards in SLI, my i3 setup outperformed my core2qaud one.

I am on the fence with this.

As an owner of a q6600, it is becoming the minimum req on some modern games, and its not a socket that upgrades well. However for daily use its fine, if your not compressing large files all the time, or rendering videos/models, or play games with lesser requirements it will be perfect.

I voted no, because if you are going to upgrade, you should save up and go for newer tech.

It depends on what you doing with it. IMO if all you do is surf the internet or do light encoding/editing, the 4 cores and 8MB cache will still allow it to be pretty fast for everyday use. Also keep in mind it has no integrated memory controller so it is considered really old just by that standard alone let alone the manufacturing process and instruction set.

I would not buy one though if you don't already have it. You don't want to invest in old tech.

I would have to say yes, but I wouldn't get anything lower than a Q9450 as anything lower isnt much of an upgrade over your e8300.
