Is it me or do games seem worse these days with the exception of a few. I decided to Re play through the entire Half-Life series & its still enjoyable even today. To me it seems that games in this current gen just dont compare to older games such the HL series, Return to Castle Wolfenstein n such. I just dont find these newer games enjoyable

This has been discussed quite extensively on OCN and I agree that game quality has dropped dramatically over the years. Many of the now legendary games where made in late 90's and early 2000's and there was a really radical drop in quality around 2005 and honestly there has not been more then a dozen of truly great games since then.

I'm about 75% through HL2. Loving every moment of it. Can't wait to play Ep 1 and 2:thumb:

I actually just beat EP1 today for the first time. I beat it in 3 hours, but it was extremely enjoyable. It's a lot more focused and than HL2 is. The linear, more deliberate style and pacing are well done. Just started EP2, already I'm impressed lol.

Wow, 3 hours? I guess I suck at gaming cause I think it took me at least 6 the first time through. EP2 is definitely the better of the two episodes ... the ending battle is just epic, and then the actual ending ... well, lets just say ... it's emotional

I don't think there's even been a better SP FPS than HL2 + episodes, and the only ones I think are even in the same league I've ever played are Stalker SoC, FEAR, and Prey ... all of which are at least 5 years old. So ... yeah. They don't make 'em like that anymore.
One thing you lose out on nowadays when you play HL2 for the first time is the sense of wonder at the amazing realism of the main characters in the game. Back when HL2 came out, there'd never been a game where the characters like Alyx and Eli and Barney seemed SO friggin real. The animations, facial expressions ... The first time I ran into Alyx and she started talking to me I was like "NO FRIGGIN WAY ... that's incredible!".
It all looks very routine by current standards, but when it came out in 2004 (I started playing it the day it came out) it was very cutting-edge.

HL2 + Episodes was just amazing for its time and still is pretty good to this day.
Lately Dayz mod for Arma II has been the only thing that has really given the gaming community what they want in a long time.

I used to love playing these games... Very good classics...
For Half Life 2, I remember purchasing my Athlon 64 3400+ processor and running this game perfect on my 1280x1024 monitor...
I agree with most of the thread, nothing like the weird music (which I liked) playing in the background, and letting go of crouch to get hit by some fans...
I died so many times in all these Half Life games...

These games have quality gameplay dripping from them. Everything these days is internet play, which is alright, but it doesn't mean squat when it's 3am and half the world is asleep, and you just need to game. The engines had limits, sure, but they coded around those, taking best use of what there was available. Nowadays it's all about achievements, and pretty pictures, which are nice, but don't make a game in themselves....
