Gone through 3 power supply's in 3 months?

I don't know what the problem is. I have gone through 3 power supplies in the last 3 months. What could be causing this? im not running much, just a gigabyte motherboard, 9800GT PCI-E card, 4gb ddr 667 ram, 160GB SATA hdd, with 4 fans in case and one dual fan on HDD.

My pc just shut down again out of nowhere, and wouldn't power back on. So, i took off the side cover which has a fan, and took out the crossbar with a fan and it powered back up. Could a bad fan cause this failure?

Another thing, everytime i take back my power supply to the place i got it, they give me one with less power everytime, they never even ask questions, so i don't complain about the lower supply. However the one i have currently isn't a month old and its a raidmax 450watt supply.

Is there any way to check to see if i have a short somewhere, something touching something that shouldnt;' be?

im lost at this point.

Check the voltage in the power socket on the wall. I've seen it go 100v over, practically burning everything running. If the electric installation in your region is old or made by idiots, or the electric company has fudged up, you might be getting fluctuations or over/under voltages.

Make sure what is coming out of the wall is proper, if not that could be the issue.

What PSUs are you using?

My guess is the combination of cheapo PSU and dirty power from the wall socket.

And for the record, people in shops never ask (a lot of) questions.
Although if I were them, I'd sell you one with more and more power, since more power costs more money and thus more revenue for them.

Anyway... it does power on, though? And definately since you've tried it with 3 different brand new PSUs, I'd rather guess it's the motherboard, on the condition that there's nothing wrong with the power coming out of the wall socket. Hardware seems old if you ask me. Might just be wear and tear.
