CRUCIAL M4 128gb

Thread Starter
Hey guys, so as the title says I want to upgrade my current seagate mechanical drive to a m4 128gb. The only problem is my mb supports 3.0gb/s not 6. How is that going to bottleneck me? I looked at one website doing benches between the 2 speeds and literally there was no difference or like 1 sec. Thanks!!

you will get about 280 read speeds instead of 500.

Realisticly you won't notice much difference. I used to have sata 2 on my SSD swapped now to a sata 3 mobo.

WEI you will probably get 7.4 instead of 7.9

the only time it might bottleneck is during benchmarks. the ssd feels fast because of it's super low access times which won't be hindered by 3gb/s.

Technically it will be bottlenecked on SATA II, however it probably won't be noticeable in real world use because even the "bottlenecked" speeds are significantly higher than any platter HDD. tongue.gif

My two M4s on SATAIII:

I just care about real world performance and not benches. I just upgraded a 8600gt to a 6850 and that's already crazy! Now, I'm thinking of doing this upgrade smile.gif

just got a M4 64gig myself, and i am on a SATA2 mobo
the performance may be bottlenecked, but it is still unbelievably fast, definitely still worth getting.

Ok, slight change of plans I'm going to get the M4 256gb so that I can have only one drive rather than 2. I just want to make sure I can run the SSD in ACHI. I went into BIOS and was trying to find out how to switch to ACHI. I found this one tab that says:

"Configure SATA As:" [IDE]. In the manual it says that the configuration options are: [IDE] [ACHI] but when I went to BIOS I only saw the IDE. Also, I went into an advanced menu and saw: "J-Micron eSATA/PATA controller [ENABLED]" and right under that it says "Controller Mode [IDE]" with configuration options: [RAID][IDE][ACHI]. So, If I change the configuration (under "controller mode") to ACHI do you guys think that the ACHI option will show up under "Configure SATA As".. (as it says it should in the manual)

Thanks smile.gif
