Is the Noctua NH-D14 really worth it? - Page 3

The D14 doesn't seem that bad now does it?

Add to that the fact Noctua products carry a six-year warranty. Whereas the 212's warranty is for only one year. That says a lot.

I would not purchase primarily on warranty (especially for relatively low cost items), as HSFs rarely ever go bad. Both brands seem to have good reliability records IME but folks should Buy What Makes THEM Happy.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess the benchmarks I was viewing were for stock CPU frequencies & voltage, which is retarded. WTH would spend $80 on a heatsink to use on their stock CPU? Only retarded people.

I guess the purchase would be worth it for me. I was actually looking to buy the Silver Arrow, but I guess it is discontinued because it is expensive and hard to find. I'll probably lap it like I did with my Dark Knight. It's time consuming, at first, but the results last a lifetime.

That's too bad about the Silver Arrow. It was a little cheaper and performed almost as well as a D14, if I remember correctly. I do remember it being said that it was a royal PITA to install, though. Thermaltake has an offering that's even more expensive than the D14 and is almost as big. Behold, the Thermaltake CLP0587. I don't know much about it though...

The differences (on avg) should be greater than 3c between that and a 212+, there are other HSFs which can do that and are much smaller in stature too.

That said I'll definitely agree on the size...it is a big fat, honker of a HSF.

The Noctua NH-D14 is definitely worth it. They have the fastest new socket support adoption of all aftermarket CPU heatsink makers and they send you the new socket kits for free if you show them proof of purchase.

They have top notch performance and their mounting kit's are excellent and very easy to install and take off.

The Corsair H series and Antec Khulers I just don't think are that great as only the H100 is comparable to the NH-D14 but, it has the possibility of leak's.

Get a NH-D14 or make yourself a custom full watercooling setup with quality compression fittings so you don't have to worry about leaks.

Hyper 212 = Awesome budget CPU cooler and in most cases, gets the job done.
NH-D14 = Quiet operation, more OC headroom

If you can afford it and it's what you prefer, then I say why not. thumb.gif

If you buy a High End Heatsink from Noctua, Prolimatech, Thermalright etc., aside from the better performance, you also have way better build quality than a cheap budget cooler like the 212. Obviously thats not an issue to a lot of people, but personally i prefer a well build piece of hardware.
