120GB Vertex 2 dies, AGAIN !

Got a 120GB Vertex 2 in December, it was dead in the box so OCZ RMAd it with an updated version. It still was a little fussy installing Windows but got it up and running and it did OK, just OK, until yesterday. Then the random BSODs and system dumps started. Then it wouldnt load Windows, then it just started the boot up screen loop. So now once again my rig is down. Really feel let down by this SSD and OCZ for not fixing or replacing it with something that is dependable. For those that say they have had no problems with theirs, count yourself lucky. Inconsistency does not make for a good product. mad.gif Time to get a Crucial.

Call OCZ now and tell them it's twice it's happened. See if you can escalate it so you wll get a Vertex 4.

I think the Vertex Plus 120GB I have is going to croak. Randomly I get checkdisk running on boots, finding alot of errors, weird windows behavior also. It decided to no longer load windows a few weeks ago so I re-installed. Seemed OK but a week or so later the checkdisk thing started again.

I have many OCZ SSDs though and this is the first one to get funky.

Maybe I should go ahead and start the RMA.

I did get a quick reply from the OCZ rep on their forum. They are going to RMA it and he gave me these options for a replacement. Any suggestions on which one. Not too familiar with them.

1) Same drive, 120GB - OCZSSD2-2VTX120G
2) Agility 3, 120GB: AGT3-25SAT3-120G
3) Octane, 128GB OCT1-25SAT3-128G

Leaning towards the Agility 3.

Good news, the rep at OCZ is going to replace my Vertex 2 with a Vertex 3 since it is my second RMA. Good things happen when you ask. thumb.gif
