Trouble is, it's like 3-4CM too tall to sit in the TV cabinet cavity that my current (horizontal) HTPC is in right now.

I've read a few posts about taking the handles off.. either top or bottom should buy me the space I need, with the intention of putting them back on to take to its new home. Would it be better to remove the top handle, so that the PSU etc still has ventilation clearance? Any downside of having no ventilation clearance at the top? Right now it will only have an Asus Mini-ITX board, AMD A6, a single HDD, and an optical drive generating heat.

EDIT: it will have plenty of clearance on the sides FYI.

Personally I would probably take the top handles off and let the PSU breathe better. With your components you're really not going to be generating any heat.

Not sure if the thinness you're referring to is a problem when hanging big aircoolers off of it? Wouldn't really be a problem with the Prodigy mounting, ntm because of the socket placement most of us are going with water loops.

If you're putting a heavy aircooler on the board, it can bend it concavely if it has a thin backplate, not everyone has the money for a full loop or CLC.

Socket placement on the Asus board is perfect for large coolers like the D14 and SA.
+1.

Not going to argue with you there. I wish ASUS would hurry up and release a RoG ITX board, the red/black would look perfect with the build/mod I'm doing for a friend. For now, I've gotta deal with the blue highlights somehow, either by painting the heatsinks/slots, or by making a full board cover ala-Sabertooth.

Still no word on the Black one... I'm waiting impatiently. It used to say "Pre-Order" 7/24/2012, then 7/27/2012, and now nothing but "Out of Stock". Not good... I wonder if xbournex can chime in on this...

I pre-ordered almost 3 weeks ago and still nothing. frown.gif

I'm worried about hearing about the shorter than normal standoffs. So to fit my D14 backplate am I going to be cutting the tray?

There is nothing to worry about mate - Even if you have to cut on the "Tray", its an easy 10 minute job (And thats with filing the edges aswell). Of all the things I done so far on my Prodigy (with more to come) the Backplate and PSU mod were the easiest to do.

Your build is epic.

Bitfenix more black less white please. I just made a mistake ordering from NewEgg. NCIX US has been in stock for awhile now.

Microcenter has it in stock now for anyone wonder. I got mine from NCIX (US) and it was part of the defective batch with broken case handle brackets. They were quick to respond about RMAs, but there isn't any ETA on when we're getting replacement handles. The handles themselves still work, though I wouldn't want to be carrying it around.
