Is the Gtx 470 still considered a high-end graphics card? (I think it is, but I wanted to hear...

I'm maxing out almost every game with the exception of Metro2033 which requires alot of power if you want to use the physx and high graphics on at same time. That is the only game I ran into that is very demanding. Other then that, almost every other games runs perfectly even with high framerates like 60 plus fps on some games. Now is this to do with most games being console-ports or is it because my graphics card isn't that old and 2 years old is not really that old for a graphics card? What can the gtx 470 be compared to? Is it comparable to a gtx 570? What about a gtx 670(or is that pushing it)? biggrin.gif

GTX 470 was never intended to be a high end GPU. It was a high-mid ranged GPU able to compete with the likes of the 5870 and 480. Now I would consider the 470 a mid ranged GPU.

 

The 480, 580, 560 TI 448, 570, 670 and 680 are all faster.

 

The 470 will not even come close to a 670's performance. The 670 is roughly 1.6-1.8 times faster; in some scenarios, you would even see a 2x increase in performance.

If you overclock the GTX470 it is comparable to a GTX570, more so inbetween the 560ti and 570. It doesn't touch the newer 670 and 680 cards. It just about maxes every game with x2AA at 1600 resolution. I still consider it a high end card because it still puts out a lot of performance power, but probably won't last much past Kepler.

its still good prob close to a 660 will be or a 560ti i believe. There great cards and in sli you can rip any game apart. Only thing is its a few gens old and its fermi so high heat and not efficent at all

470 @ 800mhz = 560ti @ 1ghz

Still very respectable for 1080p and will play eveything at this res with solid frames as long as you don't have to have EVERY single setting maxed.

The 470 is my all time favorite gpu. biggrin.gif

you know after my gpu juggling ive had my hadns on just about everything from teh 260 to a 580 and even some 6970's (4 to be exact) and a 7970 and i must agree with you. They are solid cards and push way more power then they should in my opinion. i loved my tri sli but i was forced to sell them and havent been able to get my hands on anymore of them

My old 8800 gts 320mb card is maxing games out without AA on at 1600x something resolution on my brothers computer tho that is not with physx on. I most say, some people complain about graphics cards saying you need to update every year which is a huge myth. rolleyes.gif

That graphics card is almost 6 years old when it comes November and its still playing recent games pretty good without physx because physx is a little too demanding for these cards but I'd say thats not half bad when some pc gamers don't even care about physx(tho I do).


Also, don't know how a graphics card like the gtx 470 that is maxing out 98 percent of pc games isn't considered high-end. I have AA, AF, set at the highest in game and resolution at 1080p and have all the settings maxed out. Some of you say its high/mid but how can it be mid if its maxing out most games?

Because that is not how Nvidia intended to market the 470. The graphics on games cannot keep up with the GPUs that AMD and Nvidia releases. Therefore, it may appear that the 470 is high end.
