Because they can't get their rig set up to fold bigadv? I've set it up on both my rigs and once it is set up, I've never failed to get a bigadv WU, so the only thing that I can see is keeping people from getting them is not having their rig set up properly and that should not be held against all of us. If you want to be competitive, go learn, that's what I did. I've learned to use Linux native as well, just so I could try to win my category. But, that's JMHO.

I disagree here. 690x's arent rare yet and every team in D1 is capable of folding bigadv on their x6 slot.

You can't allow things in D1 that you don't allow in D2 or D2 wont have the chance of moving up to D1.

Jedi is not saying that D2 wouldn't be allowed, he's just saying that all the teams in D1 are currently capable, if the teams in D2 aren't now, it is not because they are not allowed, but because their x6/2500k folders aren't pushing hard enough.

Wonder, I pushed my X6 to the limit. Just as many other X6 owners have done. My X6 runs at 3.8Ghz at 1.5v. I just can't get it stable beyond that. Trust me. I have spent months trying. BWG and several others have tried to help.

The truth of the matter is that you have to have a "golden" X6 chip in order to fold the bigadv WU's.(Or at least a darned good one) These are far fewer than the 2500k that are capable. X6 Processors are lucky to be able to get to 4.2Ghz at max volts. Meanwhile countless numbers of 2500k chips are hitting 4.5ghz at low volts(I think I saw a 1.38v at one point from someone). And I have seen 2500k go higher as well. There has been a huge controversy over this Category. The only way to stop the arguing about it is to limit that Category to smp only for the good of the competition. I will admit to being one of those people with complaints of the disparity between the X6 and 2500k. I think that the higher ups are seeing both sides of the issue and are doing the best thing possible at this point to solve it. And with bigadv going away here shortly anyway its better to do away with it now rather than later. June signals the start of a New TC Season. Better to make that type of change at the beginning of the season rather than in the middle.

I haven't looked, but are you telling me there are no X6s in Div1? If what Jedi said is true, that all of the Div1 teams are capable of folding bigadv in their X6/2500k (again, I haven't looked), then I don't see why we should change this now.

Frankly, I'm against taking away the bigadv WUs at all until they begin to dwindle down. I haven't seen anything from Pande stating that they are going away so how do we know if it will be another month, a year, 5 years, etc, so why limit the TC now? TC is supposed to push us to push our machines and gain PPD for OCN, and frankly, taking away the bigadv WUs prematurely is going against both of those things.

Yes, but it would lead to a more competitive TC, which is what people have been asking for - the general feeling is that the people who can get -hugeadv WUs are just out of reach for the people who can't...

The truth of the matter is that you have to have a "golden" X6 chip in order to fold the bigadv WU's.(Or at least a darned good one) These are far fewer than the 2500k that are capable. X6 Processors are lucky to be able to get to 4.2Ghz at max volts. Meanwhile countless numbers of 2500k chips are hitting 4.5ghz at low volts(I think I saw a 1.38v at one point from someone). And I have seen 2500k go higher as well. There has been a huge controversy over this Category. The only way to stop the arguing about it is to limit that Category to smp only for the good of the competition. I will admit to being one of those people with complaints of the disparity between the X6 and 2500k. I think that the higher ups are seeing both sides of the issue and are doing the best thing possible at this point to solve it. And with bigadv going away here shortly anyway its better to do away with it now rather than later. June signals the start of a New TC Season. Better to make that type of change at the beginning of the season rather than in the middle.

The truth is... you're kinda wrong. Most x6's CAN do bigadv. You're in the minority, you were just unlucky and got a terrible chip.

There X6 procs in Div 1 and Div 2. I think I saw a total of 2x X6 1090t(faMine and gboeds) in Div 1 and 2x 1055t(klaxian and jesse) in Div 2. Those are the only X6 processors in the entire TC. I don't think I have ever seen one of the 1055t in Div 1(I could be wrong).
