[FORBES] Apple's Next Game Change is Television (video) - Page 6

This is just another industry for Apple to ruin with anti-competitive business tactics that go unpunished. I already suffer from lack of integration with my car audio head unit because I don't use a CrApple product, but to think my precious TV may go the same route is even worse.

its actually the opposite of this

for example

while android phones have superior specs most of the time, the user experience is generally much more polished, much more better on apple compared to competition

same goes to laptops
Your statement is just as much bull. What you say is generally only true for people who little or no technical skills.

I've used my friends macbook at school and I can tell you it seems like a complete WASTE of money. There is no difference between a macbook and any other modern laptop....so why would you buy it when costs $500+ extra.....and usually come with less powerful hardware than a comparble non-apple laptop.

Do realize that you can run max osx on a non-apple computer, so again WHY WOULD YOU BUY AN APPLE LAPTOP IT MAKES NO SENSE JUST A WASTE OF MONEY. Please enlighten me on why I should waste money and buy one....

Oh and there is like no difference between running windows and mac osx if you are just listening to music, watching videos, surfing the web, or using microsoft office, so a comparison between OS's seems ridiculous. And mac osx is limiting as in you can't game with it (DX games that is). But like I said, OS really makes no difference, they are all essentially all the same as you can do the same things just as fast on any modern OS.

the ui is not very smooth, the battery life is a mixed bag.
official OTA updates takes forever to be released (ICS to this day isn't officially out for my phone)
there is always a compromise either be it build quality, User Experience, poor hardware, bugs, etc...

What you're describing there is brand differentiation, especially with the OTA updates. Google based phones have them straight away, otehr manufacturers and even CArriers take time testing (and with carriers, bloating with useless propriatory apps).

(I can't watch the video now, ISP blocked bandwidth heavy content during peak times for me)

I hope they don't go patent crazy and start patenting things like the size/colour of the bezel and other things that have been generic in TV sets for the last 5-7 years

Except I find it hard to believe that displays are the reason why someone buys a Mac, as you can get the same display on any other system. Apple, as far as I understand, doesn't source display tech from companies that deal exclusively with Apple. And in fact, I was always under the impression that other laptop manufacturers beat Apple to integrating 1080p panels into laptops (I could be wrong--I don't know for sure). And as an external monitor, I think it matters even less since you can usually get any monitor you want, regardless of computer brand.

I agree with what you're saying. Of course you can go out and buy a monitor separately.

I would be willing to bet that less than 10% of the Mac owners, either desktop or laptop, are actually using them for a particular reason other than the fact that it's an Apple and they think it's good. I realize they have good uses and some people on here might need them for work, but the majority of the people who have them have them because they think it's an awesome computer and don't know anything about computers or technical specs. I.E.: 99% of hipsters.

I think a big reason people buy Apple is for the support. Yes you get support with almost every brand but I can't bring my laptop to the Dell store if I'm having a problem and bought it 8 months ago. I like Apple, have worked there but am not a leg humper by any means. I think their products are over priced but along with support think they are sleek looking. People spend money on things that look good. I'm not saying other phones on the market don't look great but why buy a Porsche if a Hyundai will get you there the same way? I don't plan on buying any Apple TVs because my Sony works perfect for what I want it to do and I see through marketing schemes. Best of Apple though if they can break through a market and make a ship load while doing so.

How is this anymore valid than what I wrote?

I own an android phone and love it.

But in fairness, why is it excusable for Android on some device to be slapped together (often times, that is), with the notion over everyone's head that if you don't like the stock ROM, you can root, modify, flash a ROM. What if your device isn't widely supported in that way? What if you just want to buy a phone that does what you reasonably expect it to do, without numerous bugs and glitches? I think I'm more biased against Android than most because I had a bad experience with my first phone--I rooted/flashed, and the flashed ROM was much more to my liking. But why do I have to risk the integrity of my device, risk bricking it, just to get it to not have bugs?
Not that it means iOS/iphones don't have bugs either--it has one giant bug called iTunes that never seems to go away.
All that being said, I have an android phone and an android tablet, and I have no inclination to get an iphone or ipad.

"What if you just want to buy a phone that does what you reasonably expect it to do"

They both do.. all you need to ask is two questions

Does the Apple and Android make phone calls? Yes

Does the Apple and Android send messages? yes

Anything beyond that is icing on the cake....they are bloody phones are they not..and this thread is about Apple TV not Android or about the iPhone.
