For $2500 we can build a 3930K system with a 680/7970, 16GB RAM + an SSD + Hard Drives.
With Apple you get a Quad NEHALEM Xeon, 3GB RAM, 1 TB HD, and a 5770.
Yup, that sure is "Premium"

k now do the laptops. The Mac Pro isn't made for gaming it's made for professional video development (not sure why only 3GB RAM though) and companies that do professional video development usually have huge servers with many TBs of space. 1TB will be more than enough for that.

The 3930K will crush that MacPro in "professional video development".

The specs of that MacPro are beyond pathetic, $294 Processor, 3 GB RAM ( $25? ), 5770 ( $100 ) That sure screams "Premium" for $2500.

There's no comparison to the 3930K system you can build for the same price. A company would benefit more from the 3930K system vs that MacPro system. There's no comparison.

Here's your Macbook Pro.

657

Here's something that crushes it for less. ( 4 times the memory, twice the hard drive capacity 7200RPM, GTX 675M + Blu-Ray BURNER ) Heck if you look hard enough, you can configure a laptop with an SSD in it, and still pay less than that Macbook Pro.

Here's your Macbook Pro.

I'll enlighten you, since you don't seem to know about this:

Here's the thing with Apple:
- first off, many Apple products remain in line with competitors in terms of value: the iPad, the iPhone and the Macbook Air... even the Apple TV are priced close to competitors.
- the iPod and iMac were in line with competitors when released, but are currently awaiting a redesign, and until then they're slightly more expensive due to the lack of upgrade or a substantial decrease in their price
- The Mac Pro and MacBook Pro were slightly more expensive than competitors upon release, and as time has gone by (the Mac Pro hasn't been updated in about two years) their values really decreased since there were no major price cuts or upgrades.

So, it's not that Apple releases things that are extremely overpriced, some of them such as the iPad are amongst the best value avaible in their categories... it's just that the yearly (or longer) upgrade cycle makes some products very low in value near the end of their cycle.

Right now, every Apple product (except the AppleTV and the iPad) is awaiting a refresh... and that does really affect their value.

So, if Apple releases a TV, I doubt it will be far off from the pricing of Samsung's Smart TVs.

Why is there so much hatred towards Apple?! tongue.gif

Granted that I would never buy an iMac or a Macbook Pro(screens are beautiful) . But the Air? It is just soooo sleeek! C'mon guys..

I have the iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4 and They're both exceptionally good devices. They look beautiful too.

I don't understand the hardware BS going on here saying that Android devices have a 1.4ghz proc blah blah and the iPhone 4 only has an 800mhz/1Ghz proc. So what? It does everything what it has to and that too without any glitches. And what about the awesome support from them?

Plus Android looks like ****. Obviously you can root it and make it good looking but you can do the same by jailbreaking the iPhone.

P.S- I'm not an Apple Fanboy. smile.gif

I know all these TV makers like LG, Samsung Develop their on LCD not just the TV it self. I am pretty sure Apple will just buy the LCD from LG and stick Apple on it with its fancy design.

I don't understand how anyone could honestly say that Apple products aren't ludicrously overpriced. I mean, if you want to pay that much for less hardware, I guess that's your prerogative, but I think it hurts the industry. I think they get so much hate here on OCN because 99% of us on here are all about the price-performance ratio (EXCEPT when it comes to GPUs. lol I think we can all go a bit overkill on those things! biggrin.gif) and Apple products have the worst price-performance ratio of any products in the world. Just look 5 or 6 posts up at what 2010rig found! That's awful!!

I don't think a lot of us have a problem with the OS as much as we do the hardware you get for the price. And The reputation they have around the general public for actually being some of the nicest computers you can buy, when, in fact, they are usually years behind. A copy of OS X is like, $50 on Amazon. If you really must have Apple, put that on your computer. But I would be willing to bet a lot of Mac users wouldn't be able to tell a big difference between OS X and Ubuntu, which is absolutely free!

Apple products are usually much WORSE spec wise than their competitors. A better analogy would be, "Why would you spend $50,000 on a Ford, when you could get a very nice BMW, much more car, for the same price??"

I think you completely missed the point. The whole point of that post was "Why spend $50,000 on a car when a $500 car will do the same job for 1/1000th of the price" A bit like the whole Mac vs PC thing.

I 100% see what you are trying to get at. But, when people pay that premium for a BMW, they are getting more car. When people pay the premium for Apple, they are actually getting less computer. Now, an argument could be made that some would be willing to spend an extra $500-$600 for the support they have, but that's too steep for me. Personally, I didn't have anything but negative experiences in the Apple store when I used to use the original iPod (the only Apple device I've ever used).

Well then you shouldn't really say they aren't worth the money. My Mac has a single core 1.25GHz PowerPC CPU, 1GB RAM and a 64mb (shared) ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 which in theory should even be able to run Windows XP. properly if XP supported PowerPC CPUs. I can run OSX 10.4.11 just fine with a few Safari windows open, doing a bit of PS and with MS Word open at the same time. When you get a Mac you're not just paying for the hardware, you are also paying for the OS, customer service etc. I know you can get the same hardware for around $200 less if you went with some other manufacturer (I'm talking about the Apple laptops BTW not desktops) When it come to Apples there are 50-60 different hardware combinations where as with PCs there are billions if not trillions of hardware combinations so the devs of Mac OS can make it more optimized for the hardware it has to run on.
