why such low fps?? mobo? - Page 2

Here is the background behind the whole ram slot issue:
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu...64-e3-mem.html

in the E6 revision, six ranks or more of RAM (three double sided sticks) results in a command rate of 2T. With the E4 revision it's even worse, knocking the speed of RAM down to DDR 333.

The TPII 480 W you have should be sufficient. It delivers 33A max load on the 12V rails, thus exceeding the amps you need.
Here is an image: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowIm...ply+%2D+Retail (this is the blue, but the regular TPII has the same load distribution.)

TIP: Apparently CPU-Z tells you weather or not the ram is running in dual channel mode. See memory tab.

Good tip

But the issue I am adressing here is specific for the AMD memory controller and 3 or more double sided sticks, resulting in a worse command rate and even lower RAM speed with older (revision E4) CPUs

what are those E6 and E4? (im readin that link now, thanks so much)

how do you tell if ram is running at DDR400 or another speed using CPU-Z?

Click the memory tab. Check what frequency it runs on (this also depends on your overclock).

E4 and E6 are different revisions of AMD socket 939 CPUs. For example, the 3700+ BN series is revision E4 while the 3700+ CF series is revision E6. Obviously, E4 is older

frequency is about 157MHZ. no overclock at all.

whats "BN" and "CF" man I feel like such a noob, really appreciate this.

Ok... it seems your RAM is a problem. Frequency should be 200 when you ruin stock. 157 translates in DDR 314 speeds (rounding I assume DDR 333)

BN and CF are just different version of the 3700+ CPU.

Here they are:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...k=&srchInDesc=

Look at the Processor Model number: ADA3700BNBOX and ADA3700CFBOX

PS: please fill out your system specs... go to 'User CP' and click on 'Edit System Specs' on the left. This makes our lives a lot easier to help you

thanks..I see I will need new RAM. the thing is I remembered putting in a friend's 2x 1 GB stick of OCZ Platinum Edition and didn't notice a difference. I'll et some good RAM ASAP. thanks all. ALl the RAM sticks say DDR400, so why does it run in DDR300 ish speed? I'll try the 1GB DDR today when I get home, for a temporary solution.

Just a thaught... is it possible that it's the server's fault? In case you're the server for a 32 man game I guess you'll need a lot more than that 2GB, 4 wouldn't hurt. The way I see it your rig works fine, you have a good score in 3dm2006, so it may have something to do with the game server wich can't cope with the demand.

I don't run a server on my PC at all. I'm forced to play in 32 man servers, and still get horrible FPS.

btw, hows this RAM

or should I go for better?
