[TechSpot] AMD Piledriver Production Begins Q3 - Page 4

I figure that process maturity alone would lead to at least a 200MHz bump, which would be a 5.5% gain over the 8150 at stock. Architecture improvements are supposed to be in the realm of a 10% perf/watt improvement, and RCM is at minimum another 10% improvement. The only thing that would hold back Piledriver's performance would be if AMD clocks the thing conservatively for power savings.

if piladriver was optimised manually, instead just letting a program decide ,this alone should give a huge boost ,plus all the optimisation they shown in trinity applicable to piledriver .piledriver could suprise.if they went the lazy route and let the computer optimise then expect more of the same has bd!a bump ,but not worth doing a webcast or article !

Piledriver in Trinity beat the "Husky" cores in Llano by 20%... which were a 6% improvement over Phenom II/Athlon II.

Proof ?

When AMD says 10% then it is most likely going to be less than 10% (from when AMD claims were reliable ?)

AMD claims are not a fact. I'm really surprised that many people still believe AMD claims, even though they have history of exaggeration.

Finally, i hope they managed to drop that power consumption. It was sky rocketing, especially when you oc it.

Some 890 series motherboards had BIOS updates that let them basically be AM3+, so why can't they support Piledriver? What's a southbridge do?

Rumor has it that Piledriver is going to be using the extra pin that's on the AM3+ socket and if this holds true, anything less then a 9xx series chipset will not take PD.

They say that the Trinity desktop APU's will be out before the full fledged PD and I'm interested to see what the desktop versions can do with the use of the clock mesh biggrin.gif
