Good sound card? - Page 3

I have the Titanium X-fi and it works great in Windows 7. The latest drivers off the website work. Have not had any issues.
When Windows 7 first came out I did have problems.
Read up on the card though - it is my understanding that if you want to use the case headphone jacks you have to plug their cable into the soundcard, not the mobo.
Not certain, i plug headphones into my speakers.

The AD700s are NOT a must have with a DG. I don't know who told you that. That's simply wrong.

For what price? The $80 that you were looking for used a while back or the actual almost $200 msrp?

The fact that the card has issues down mixing a 5.1 signal killed its value for me.

Sorry, it sounded like I said you needed a DG. What I was really trying to say is that you really should have Dolby Headphone mode with a virtual 7.1 visualization. From what I have heard it works pretty well according to Head-Fi. To clarify you do NOT have to have DG, I just know it's a supported feature in the DG. Here is a review comparing 2 headphones together, the AD700 and another headphone AD700/MDR F1 Gaming Review

As for headset yea I need something that will give me an edge in games but at the same time have good sound quality. The AD-700 looks good but what do you mean it's a must have with the xonar DG? I'm sorry I am a complete noob in the sound section of PC's. I know everything else fairly well except this.

Lol I still use the extreme gamer from creative. But the software kind of sucks with it. Works then not works.

I think you should save your money and go for the ASUS Xonar DG. It has an on-board headphone amplifier and never once had I had a problem with the drivers. Don't have a PCI slot? Get the DX. Both cards have that Dolby software that emulates 5.1 surround at let me tell you, it DOES make a difference in games. Onlly problem with it is that when your talking to a friend over a mic his voice sounds very strange.
I agree with everybody else against Creative. I had problems before with their drivers and actually ended up using custom made drivers made long ago by a group of non-profit developers. Unfortunately I forgot since I upgraded to a DG long ago.
Honestly the $80+ premium other soundcards cost over the DG aren't worth even half of the extra cost.

At 130 dollars it's tremendous value. It's on par with the STX in terms of music quality and it's one of the most top notch cards for gaming available on the market. It's 50 dollars cheaper than an STX.

Creative also has custom drivers for those that are crying about drivers.

Why would it not be great value? Because it doesn't allow for 5.1 surround sound via speakers? Who here plays on 5.1 speakers and has anything better than a Logitech pair of speakers? Some might have bought the Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 Ultra but most people wanitng 5.1 via speakers have logitech speakers in which case the TiHD is then overkill for your speakers.

Most places now sell the TiHD for 148. That still puts it at 32 dollars less expensive than the STX. And the STX doesn't have 5.1 neither. You'd need to buy the more expensive ST and then buy the H6 adapter to get 5.1

As far as gaming goes, going Asus isn't really a solution to hardcore gamers. So even if you go with the DX, you're not getting the quality gaming experience you would with Creative so 5.1 quickly becomes not so useful.

You're missing the point a little bit, it's the fact that the DG supports Dolby Headphone mode and emulated 5.1 or 7.1 (I'm not sure). Plus the AD700's are kind of bass lacking in the design, so you would want a more rounded headphone if you wanted to get seriously into music. From what I have picked up he want's it pretty much for gaming, so I think he could get the DG for about $20 and the headphones for $60-80 and overall have a pretty nice setup for ~$100.

Actually I ran into issues with Creative's x64 emulation. Issues that could have been fixed with Daniel K's driver but sadly since its such a niche product he doesn't support the HD.

I'm talking about downmixing a 5.1 signal with CMSS or THX which is all that you have for modern games now that openal is dieing (thankfully). On the other hand dolby headphone works wonderfully.

I paid just under $160 for my STX recently, brand new. Its a much better sound card than the titanium hd.

Has anyone tried Creatives X-Fi MB2 software in conjunction with a Xonar? Wondering if its possible seeing as they're selling the licenese with all the important gaming features for 25 USD.
