No Boot device found

Thread Starter
Hi all,

I'm having a bit of a problem here. I decided to install Ubuntu 10.10 a month ago for better f@h performance although I'd like to switch back to Windows now.

I had windows installed on a RAID 0 array (Marvell) and ubuntu on an old Spinpoint 200GB. I removed the 200GB drive and tried to boot in Windows, but all it says is no boot device found insert boot media (or something along that sense).

Do you know how to solve this. The data is still there and I did not change anything on the raid config frown.gif

TIA

Did you change boot priority in the bios? Or maybe you need to reset the raid array since it may have changed when you went to using a single disk.

I did change boot priority but it didn't help. I didn't change anything to the RAID setup either since Linux didn't recognize it.

Well how about try checking to see if the OS raid array is still there and working. If you have your install disc, pop it in and boot from it. You don't have to do anything. Once you get to the the menu, it should start scanning every disk/array you have for every possible OS installed even if you have multiple ones. Try that to see if your old OS is found. If not, try using the startup fixing tool.

I already did that before posting here tongue.gif

It did not find the OS but my RAID array was intact. Also it saw that there was data on it and partitions. System recovery did nothing.

So linux didn't see Local Disk (insert letter of array)? Even with an OS on the array, you still should be able to use it as a normal drive and use/save to. Also, when you changed over to linux, did you remove the drives from their respective sata ports or did you just add the linux drive to an available port? ie. The windows OS raid drives are still in the exact ports they were in before and not mismatched. If you did remove them, maybe the drives are switched, like previously drive 0 is in port 1 and vice versa. If they are attached exactly as before, I'd recommend resetting your cmos and applying your settings again manually. ie. Your raid and any overclocks you had. It won't destroy your OS and the raid should re-enable if it's connected exactly as when the array was made.

I'll try resetting the bios. I did not change the sata arrangement however.
