Visually, things have taken a step up, so it’s interesting to see how the other big shooter franchises like Call of Duty respond. Black Ops 2 was revealed just a few weeks ago, and while it’s been updated, it’s still running on the modified version of the id Tech 3 engine that the series has been using for years. Treyarch aren’t concerned.

"Black Ops 2 doesn't need a new engine because a new engine will cost millions of dollars to develop, and even if we use an old engine every teenager in the world will still buy it and make us rich yet again so why even try?"

Blame consoles. And wow CoD runs on id Tech 3? That's from the 90's....obviously it's been heavily modified but I didn't know Quake III code was still being used in new productions.

Another epic fail COD Black Ops graphic is much worse than mw2 and yes not very optimised same like world at war. If they not changed graphic engine,then they will harvest a lot hater among their own fan especially in PC.
P.S they only care for sale figure rather than improve graphic. Name it as expansion instead a sequel

So basically this boils down to consoles holding up progression again and yet another dev that would rather milk a franchise than be innovative. Not that i care, i haven't played a CoD game since World at War.

I can understand why they don't want to make a new engine though. It's pretty pointless when consoles are their main target audience - they aren't trying to appeal to people who REALLY care about graphics.

I think it's a similar story with Valve and their Source engine, minus the console focus.
