Buying the fx8150 as a quad core? - Page 5

If you want amd either buy a 960t with 50% possibility to unlock to a 6-core or w8 until september and Piledriver. Otherwise just take a 2500k/3570k if you want intel. Or if you have something similar to a 965 BE its just plenty for any kind of gaming. The main reason for upgrade is a crossfire/sli setup (bottleneck) either for a specific job. For 1080p gaming and single gpu setup the range from 965 BE to a 3960x its pretty much the same for gaming. Until we see some multithread games a mediocre cpu can serve us well.

Edit:

The point to make a 8-core cpu 4-core its like to buy a 2600k and disable hyperthread.

I have seen some research that shows that If you disable cores 2,4,6,and 8 it gives cores 1,3,5,7 access to all of the resources in each module and that takes the 5 percent performance increase over the Phenom II x6 1100T and brings it up to a 15 to 20 percent. I think i saw a benchmark or two somewhere, I would search for those, I would even get a piledriver CPU and do that for a 30 percent performance increase.

someone did that in the vishera owners thread and got a 8% increase in Ipc. Not bad, but no 30%.
