CM Quickfire Pro Issues *Please help*

What's good OCN community,

So I recently bought a Cooler Master Quickfire Pro, and am relatively in love with it...except for a really annoying issue (which I guess depending on my purposes can be a really big issue...)

1)
When I turn on my computer (from cold start), I see the keyboard light up then turn off and does not register during the time I can access my BIOS (which makes me a sad panda because I won't be able to play with my overclocks...).

2) Once it boots up to Windows, where I have to enter my password, the keyboard sometimes registers and sometimes does not; leaving myself having to utilize the on screen keyboard...selecting one key at the time with my mouse...

3) Once into Windows, most of the time life is good; keyboard registers and is ready to go. Switching between 6NKey to NKRO takes some time but the machine sees it and registers.

4) Restarting the computer is a gamble...sometimes the keyboard just doesn't register at all unless I go around plugging her into different usb ports (USB2 and 3 doesn't make a difference)

SO! CMReps please help...I load up in 6NKey and not in NKRO so I don't understand why this is happening. I have been in contact with CM customer service via E-Mail and have taken their steps to maintain booting up in 6Nkey, yet the problem(s) still persist.

I'd love some feedback from other owners too. Thanks in advance, I hope I don't have a faulty board...ftl

You probably have to use a ps2 keyboard for your bios to work, it's pretty common.
I don't know if you can fix it and I don't know why it happens, but a ps2 keyboard should work

PS/2 is the old style plug/socket right? I have one somewhere in storage, but I also had a Dell keyboard (the freebee ones) that I've been using since my Logitech wireless one failed and it reads/works perfectly. The dell keyboard turns on right when I turn on my computer.

...If i got the whole idea of PS/2 wrong, then please enlighten me.

PS/2 is basicly those round plugs that older keyboards and most mechanical keyboards use to get full NKRO.
I would've just tried another USB and a PS/2 keyboard and check if it's your keyboard or it's the plug. smile.gif

The 990 FX chipset can be a little tricky with this board. Do me a quick favor and attempt to boot with the board in 6-Keyrollover mode while in a USB 3.0 hub. As weird as that sounds, this particular motherboard gave me a similar issue at PAX & remember 3.0 solved it.

Also try disabling "Quick Boot" in bios if you have access to a ps/2 Keyboard.

Thank you for your response, I was starting to worried, but your statement about the 990FX capability does make me feel some relief. I'll certainly do the following when I get home:

1) Boot computer with quickfire in a USB3.0 hub while in 6Nkey Mode.
2) Do the same above but with Quick Boot turned off.

Update

So I got home after work and plugged in the Dell usb keyboard that I used to use (with the quickfire plugged in also), the computer booted up and the quickfire registered during the BIOS. I proceeded to the windows page and it also worked. I thought this was good news, until I turned off the computer and did it once again with the quickfire pro only plugged in...It fails to register again and again...

I have done everything you listed, except it doesnot like USB3.0.The quickfire has more likelihood of registering when it is in a USB2.0. Iono what to do...

I caved and went back to the store and returned it, ate a fatty restocking fee, and spent a little extra and grabbed a maxkeyboard nighthawk. I certainly hope this issue gets resolved though. It just maybe the 990fx board or something because the shop tested the board on every computer they had...it worked for all their machines, and all of them were intel.

I really like my new keyboard, and it was kinda worth the premium. cherry mx red switches are nice, and it's fully backlit. lol it also has the fire breathing mode thing with better textured keys.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I have the same issue with my Asrock Z77E-ITX board...I had no problems with it working on my old Asus Z68 motherboard so I do believe that it is some sort of compatibility issue that CM should look into...Getting kinda old unplugging the keyboard and plugin it back in each time I boot up my pc.

I fixed my issue by plunging in the keyboard into the USB port (USB 2.0) on my BenQ Monitor- this works. Hopefully it will help some others as well thumb.gif
