Good buy??

Thread Starter
i just bought an ati radeon x850pro with the sole purpose of overclocking and unlocking. i read some problems with heating so i also bought an aftermarket cooler (ARCTIC COOLING AVC-AT5).
This bundle cost a total of 179.29; 139.99 for gpu, and 19.99 for cooler, + shipping and tax.
was this a good buy

PS
i only bought this as a temporary gpu, untill they come out with dx10 cards, and ill probably wait till they have those intel core quadros out on the market, with new mobo, etc.

Check if your core can unlock by shift clicking the options button in ATI Tool, chances are it probably won't since they started laser cutting them. You'll be able to get a nice overclock though with the added cooling.

But according to alot of guides, it says that the VIVO version of the x850pro can be unlocked

It's apparently going to go for around $300 (i saw somewere someone who worked at best buy posted they saw it on the shipping order and it was listed to sell for $299)

I think the x1950 would be able to hold you off untill directx10 cards get reasonably priced, and also get tested throughly.

The x850xt is not a bad however, especially if you can overclock it. I don't think you got a great deal, just an okay one.
