I recently put together another build with an FX-6100 and a 7850 CORE from XFX (the DD was too expensive, sadly its on sale now for $10 more 2 days later... thanks newegg!) After looking around how to pass overclock limitations set by 12.3+ I found my solution, I found many threads saying the GPU ran at 1200 // 1450 Stable no Vcore change and thus I took that risk and set it up that way putting it at 1140 // 1375 , well..I get driver crashes, freezes, furmark freezes... MSI Kombuster does not. The card is on a MSI 97A-G46 the PCI 3.0 Mode is enabled too. FX6100 is on 18.5x for 3.7ghz at 31c idle on stock cooler, the GPU on the OC'd temps are 34c idle 62c load in kombuster after 15 minutes if the driver doesnt loop crash (I have an Evercool FX2 placed under it)
I noticed though, even overclocked I only got 10 fps more on AVERAGE in games like TERA compared to my BFs 4890 AND HE WAS RUNNING EYEFINITY vs. my 1920x1080!! its insane, and now even on stock settings I get random amd driver crashes.
Another side note: My rig and his are the same spec aside from cpu and gpu. We both have the same RAM, on the same timings on the same mobo, the only difference is CPU - FX6 vs FX8 (he disabled two cores during my rage testing) He uses a 7970 Lightning which is RMA so I could only compare it to the 4890 hes currently using.
Are XFX cards binned or something so the "Cores" are generic pieces of lackluster garbage that cant hold steady with the rest of the 7850 crowd... I only got a 7850 and not a 6950 because of all the "wows" with OC headroom to begin with! I just dont know how to approach this.
