[TR] Microsoft corrects itself: 'We expect fewer people to use Windows 8' - Page 2

I can't wait for Release Preview. Windows 8 is shaping up to be an amazing platform. Definitely miles ahead of Vista/7 in core functionality. The security layer is quite nice and all you need as well, there is no sense in running a antivirus on Windows 8. Unless of course your a virus prone newbie. As for the count of people using it, well I could of told you that back last year. If you take out all the desktop users that wont use it, then your losing out on a large portion of the market. Yet Microsoft doesn't mind this, as it was never their intention to push it onto desktop users in the first place. Windows 7 was rumored and had the opportunity to be the "XP killer", but it didn't happen and has no chance now. I think Windows 8 is going to be the "XP killer". It runs quite nice on my machine minus Aero (which is thankfully removed).

It's like that at most business's world wide. Our United States prisons, police departments, and all that still use Windows XP. Along with all the small shops in between. No one ever notices but business's rarely use high end machines.

There will be ways to get back a traditional desktop experience, and if they roll in the rumored ability to play 360 games I will be snagging a student discounted licence.

Windows 8 is not the "next vista" as so many people have been saying. Vista was never a bad operating system: OEMs tarnished its public image by shipping it on machines that weren't powerful enough to run it, hardware manufacturers didn't publish stable drivers, and several bad default-on components (UAC and gadgets) made for a bloated and obnoxious first impression. Windows 7 is literally Vista with a facelift so..

To be honest, those are 2 small things that will make me not buying.
The only reason why I would buy is :
1 - Integrated Blu ray software
2- Playable xbox games
3- Much better performance than 7 with games in general.

I agree, but only on the playable xbox games. Windows 7 is plenty fast, I'd rather upgrade my MoBo and CPU then OS.

I still prefer XP then 2000 the most of the various Windows versions. Only thing 7 really has for me is DX11. They'll probably pull something like that with 8 too.

I know I can't because I don't have a uefi board. I'm not buying / building a brand new computer to replace one barely a year and a half / 2 years old just for their badly designed os.

UEFI and Secure Boot is not a requirement, if I'm understanding correctly.

I believe they are aiming to enable Secure Boot on OEM machines, which would add a layer of security. If they required it, all computers built before Windows 8 would not be able to upgrade.
