HTPC build

Thread Starter
Hi guys,

So I have been planning my HTPC build for a while now, and it's been up and running for the past few weeks, But I have one last thing to conquer.

The case.

The build is an AMD Athlon X3 460 on an Asus M4N68T-M V2 board with 4GB of ram and a 420w PSU.

The budget is strict so im looking really to be spending as little as possible, I have had a few ideas but they have reached dead ends at most turns,
And now with the BitFenix prodigy up for pre-order, I am sorely tempted to sell the build and buy ITX.

Do you guys think I could sell my Athlon and the asus board for £90 +, I also have a 5770 that I could toss in aswell and another 400W PSU?

I say £90 + As im looking at getting this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-162-MS&groupid=701&catid=1903&subcat=2230

However, I am unsure as to the processing power of the E-450. The system does not need to be high tech its only running WHS 2011 and will be used to play music and movies (1080p MKV's)

Can the E-450 handle that with ease or will it just about do it? as I am looking to keep this build for a while.

Please share any thoughts or ideas you have

Well I can't provide much knowledge in the E-450 debate you have going on. But i can tell you that your Athlon will be perfect for a HTPC. I have a C2D 6400 that runs my 1080p Blu-Ray rips perfectly at 5.1. So if my little dual core at 2.1ghz can do that, you shouldn't have a problem. Now, what graphics card are you going to be using with the HTPC if you stick with Athlon?

Well i've put the athlon up for sale so im now debating whether to go with the E450 or the Pentium G620 =/,

I have a low profile saphire 5770 that has DVI on it for graphics, but I think the IGP on both chips should be sufficient.

The G620 should wreck any HD content you throw at it, so you're set there. As for the onboard graphics, I don't know. I don't see why it wouldn't work. Either the case, you already own the 5770 so if you set everything up and the HD stutters, just throw that card in there and you're set. thumb.gif

Update: So basically none of it sold on the eBay, possibly because they don't have boxes and I wasn't willing to post as I know how crap the post office are, Decided to buy myself a case that was fairly small, the Prodigy will have to wait, may make it my next rig rather than a media box. biggrin.gif
