Right now I am sitting at 32c idle at 3.7Ghz on stock with a FX-6100, Since Im going to invest in a 7970 I feel like I minus well step into the fray abit further and splurge. My goal is to clock it as high as possible, which generally gives better temps? My ambient is 74f.

212 EVO or Corsair H60?

I would go with the 212 evo or plus,it might out perform the H60 and for the money cant hardly beat that. If you have the room to put 2 fans on the 212 and do a push/pull config i bet it would beat or match the H60. If you wanted some huge overclocking you might want to consider an H80.

I would go for the h60 out of those two. As long as you have the mounting points for the h60 it will dominate the 212. Good luck

Id go with the plus over the Evo as the plus performs a little bit better. This is due to the Evo's fans being slower and made to be quieter. The Blade Masters on the + are excellent.
However, if youre wanting to get the highest overclock possible, youre gonna need some more beef than a Hyper. How much are you willing to spend? Something like a DH14 might be a better choice or even a H100 if you can afford them.

If you want to go even better the nzxt havik 140 is an amazing aircooler for its price and size and performs the same as the nhd14.

I have a 212 Evo and my idle on a Phenom X4 960T OC 4ghz is 18 degrees Celcius, so with my experience I would say get the Hyper 212 Evo! I also use Arctic Silver 5 for my thermal paste of choice. Also the 212 plus and Evo have direct contact heatpipes however the Evo's heatpipes are closer together which creates less of a gap which is present on the 212 plus. So in my opinion i would go with the Evo

18C idle? I think youve got a faulty core temp sensor in your 960. 18C is like 64F. In order to idle at 64F, your room's ambient temp would have to be like 58F or something. You cant idle below ambient temp, unless youre under water LN2.

please state correct data, what was the ambient temp taken when you record temp.
and so what about idle.. idle performance means squat. load.. load.. load.
what is your load temperature with ambient?

true, but another item is that the AMD processors do have a lower temperature signature
than the intel camp.
