[Build Log] Nemesis 2.0 Redux Resumed

Thread Starter
Hey guys. Im on the kind of budget that doesnt allow me to do new builds all at once. my current build was an ever evolving one from when it first started to where it is now.
I had originally planned to start this build sometime at the end of this year, but a nice little surprise has given me the ability to start much sooner.

The surprise, you ask? I Currently work as a Cashier at Wal-Mart.
Now while I do not directly sell Electronic devices (unless customers bring them to my register of course), Wal-Mart is a Retail Partner of Intel (because they sell computers equipped with Intel Products).
As such, I have access to Intel's Retail Edge program, which allows retail workers to learn how to sell Intel products to customers better.
The Retail Edge program also has 2 Special access Deals every year, which are known as the "Summer deal" and the "Winter Deal".
I got into the program before the winter deal last year, so i was able to get myself a newly released 2700K for about $140 (they retailed for about $380 at the time).
that 2700k is in my folding rig, running 4.9GHz at 1.4V under an H80.

Most people Expected that this year's Summer deal would be a 3770K IB Chip, which i was not planning on using for anything.
However, the summer deal was recently announced, and instead of the 3770K being the Deal, Intel Stepped it up a notch and put the SB-E 3930K in for the deal.
Currently the 3930K retails for $590 on newegg.

The Retail Edge deal that i have access to, which starts on the 31st of this month, is for $200 eek.gif

so my end goal for this rig is as follows:
Intel Core i7 3930K LGA2011 (purchased 5/31/2012- Intel Retail Edge $223.92 after tax and shipping)
Asus ROG Rampage IV Extreme X79 LGA2011 Motherboard (Purchased 5/31/2012- Newegg.com $430, no tax and free shipping)
16GB Samsung 30NM dimms (2 2x4GB sets) (Purchased 6/9/2012 - Newegg.com ~$96 no tax/free shipping)

Dual 7970s in CF
NZXT Switch 810 case
850+W PSU
SATAIII SSDs
Put the whole thing under water

489x339px-LL-2c3177d5_switch_810.jpeg

Now again, i work at WAL-MART. i make barely above minimum wage in WA ($9.90/hr) i have other expenses. ergo this isnt going to happen all at once, rather, it will slowly replace my current rig (Hence the name+2.0)
so here is my build Plan:

Upgrade v1.1:
Quote:
Replace Processor and Motherboard with 3930K and Asus ROG Rampage IV Extreme x79 motherboard
I should be able to get the 3930K on the 31st or shortly thereafter. My Current 7970 will go in for RMA after the 2nd. I will likely get a Sapphire DUAL-X 7970 as a replacement. card is working fine now for some reason......
Will have to contact Noctua about getting the 2011 mount for my NH-D14 and see how that will be placed with the new RAM configuration. i have 2011 screws from another heatsink that should work and my ram doesnt have any fins on it.
Estimated Completion: Mid-Late June updated estimation: june 10th
Upgrade 1.1 COMPLETE June 9th
Cost ~ $653
sell current motherboard/processor for ~$200130

Upgrade v1.3:
Quote:
Will be looking at RAM, SSD
I could simply get another 2 sticks of ram and have 16GB total (12+4), may look for a new set of faster ram (might go with some of those 30nm Samsung DIMMs)
Most likely will get at least a 60GB OS SataIII SSD, which one i get will likely depend on any good deals i see.
Progress:
Ram Ordered Installed
OS SSD: Pending Decided to use the Samsung as my OS SSD. installed.
Games SSD: Samsung 830 128GB Ordered Going to shoot for a 512GB for my Games SSD, which forces this back a few months
Estimated Completion: End of July (waiting for a good deal on other SSDs)
Completed due to plan changes: June 20th 2012
cost: $186

Upgrade v1.5:
Quote:
Power supply,
Will be looking at 850-950W models. might get Modular if i can
Estimated Completion: End of August
Went with second 7970 For this section instead
Completed: August 13 2012

Upgrade v1.7:
Case. I will most likely get a matte Black NZXT Switch 810. NZXT Has been making nothing but killer cases, and the switch is Awesome
Estimated Completion: October
Went with PSU for this section instead. NZXT Hale90 1000W
Completed: September 18th

Final Upgrade to Nemesis 2.0:
Quote:
Put the whole thing under water. I will have to look at available motherboard waterblocks (if applicable) to chose motherboard. Axed watercooling from the plan for now
This part i think will only be possible with help ($$$) that i can get after the first of january 2013, from a very generous friend. the second 7970 may also have to wait until this time.
Assuming the world ends before such time, well it wont really matter anyways will it rolleyes.gif
Completed, February 2013 (my b-day is feb 1st wheee.gif)

Misc Parts to total completion
Quote:
When these parts are aquired will be entirely dependent on if i can get the case sponsored. Case bought from Walmart.com
Lutro0 Sleeved 24p + 8p for Mobo going with the 24p sleeved NZXT extension I already had + the 8P sleeved extension that came with the Switch.
Dwood Custom PSU/psu cable/lower rad Cover. -Pending
Samsung 830 512GB SSD got already
Alternate fans for NH-D14 cooler
NZXT HUE Lighting set.

My samsung 830 series 128GB SSD Arrived. i decided to use it as my OS drive.

BUILD ON HOLD>

I had just finished writing up My sponsorship Email for NZXT when i double checked to make sure my Supplier for WCing gear could still come through, and he said he wasnt sure.
Since the Watercooling is the integral and final part of the rig, and its availability was determinite in getting the case sponsored, I was unable to send the Email.
If I cannot get the WCing parts supplied i will have no choice but to Halt the build where it is.
Ive Given the supplier 1 week to determine whether they will be able to supply the WCing gear or not, and in the event that he is unable to do so,
I will Sell off most of it (processor, Motherboard, Ram, PSU, and 1 of the GPUs)

I have marked the Build "ON HOLD" until then.
I really didnt want it to come to this, but the rig is really a waste for me where i am currently living and i see no reason to keep it going if i cannot finish it.

January 5th, 2013
My left monitor died a week ago, and without any way to get a new set of monitors(the three i had were hard enough to find as it is, since they are no longer manufactured), eyefinity is out of the question.
If any improvement comes to the internet out here, it will be 6 months before we see it. I cant play games at all during the day, due to terrible lag spikes on exhausted ISP equipment.
At this point there isnt any reason whatsoever for me to keep 2 7970s, unfortunately i really don't want to have to sell one just to get another one later.....
I've been trying to find another job, but it seems i get cut down every turn i try to take frown.gif

January 30th, 2013
I Finally got a job offer for a 3 month temporary IT job that will pay 2x as much as Walmart. As much as i would like to use this opportunity to finish my original plan, I need to keep certain priorities in order. Full watercooling is thus out of the question, But i will Get the Case that i intended to put this rig in and call it finished from then.

Update 1.1:
Checked Noctua's Website. i have to wait to order the 2011 kit for my NH-D14 until after i order the 3930K (noctua requires an invoice for both the cooler and either the mobo/proc you are upgrading to)
Looking at Motherboards:
ASUS Rampage IV Formula LGA 2011 Intel X79
ASRock X79 Extreme9 LGA 2011 Intel X79
EVGA X79 FTW 151-SE-E777-KR LGA 2011 Intel X79

While i suppose not absolutely neccessary, i was kind of hoping to go with a board with 8 ram slots. Im leaning towards the Extreme9. it also has a PCIE configuration that would work for 2 DUAL-X 7970s before and after Water.
I would like to go with an EVGA board considering how well theyve worked for me so far and how good their warranty program is, but it looks like their X79 series is having a few hiccups with BIOS issues, i might inquire to Phaedrus if these issues have been addressed.

Update 2 for 1.1
It looks like i should be able to get about $200+ for my current motherboard and CPU. I wasnt really looking to spend this much but im thinking i will go ahead with the ASUS ROG Rampage IV Extreme x79 motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131802
my next paycheck should have a bit of holiday pay and quarterly bonus in it so that should help. My generous friend has informed me that he is willing to get all of my watercooling parts for me before the end of the year, so i might be able to speed the build up a little bit.

Update for 1.2
Assuming they are in stock i will be getting 2 sets of the 2x4GB Samsung 30nm Dimms.

3930K and Asus ROG Rampage IV Extreme X79 motherboard purchased.
i may already have the parts i need to convert my NH-D14 to the 2011 socket (the double ended screws are all you need, and i have some from the NZXT Havik 140) assuming the hole spacing on 2011 is the same as 1366.
the motherboard will probably get here on wednesday. the processor may take a bit longer.
