Appraisals: E8400, P35 DS3L, 4GB DDR2

Thread Starter
Thinking of swapping out my old 775 bits for an Ivy Bridge setup. Would keep my HDD, PSU, and GPU.

Gigabyte P35 DS3L - great board, super common from its hayday

Core 2 Duo E8400 - Wolfdale 45nm, overclocks quite well. DS3L can't hold it stable above 4GHz but will push it to about 4.5 for short times.

4GB OCZ Fatal1ty DDR2-800

What could I get? biggrin.gif

^this, a bit less for the mobo though, it's an ordinary P35 MB, and there isn't anything spectacular about it. 40$ shipped for it.

Honestly the DS3L may be ordinary but they're still phenomenal boards. Most boards in its price range couldn't touch it for overclocking.

Well, I remember that people were buying DFI P35s last year for around 50$, which are beasts for overclocking. Still, it's an old socket MB, and most P35s from respectable companies like Asus, DFI etc are decent overclockers anyway, I find it hard to believe someone will spend too much for that DS3L. Just my 2 cents.
