M5A97 Windows boot problem

Thread Starter
So I'm doing a rebuild on my first project, just a slight upgrade to the MOBO and CPU, everything else remains the same. The install went well, not hangups, but when I boot, it will post and load the bios no problem, its recognizing all my drives, ram, cpu, etc...but it won't actually boot into windows...ok so I try and use my windows setup discs during boot to repair, won't boot into those either whether its on CD or USB. But I've booted into a different utility boot CD and I updated the bios from a USB drive...so what gives? I can't figure a way to reinstall windows, I can't boot into windows....Any ideas? I know i've read about a bunch of problems with this mobo, seems like most of them don't tie into this issue though...how do I proceed?

Appreciate any help in advance.

Oh, if it helps, CPU is Phenom 960T, 550W TX corsair power supply, Corsair vengeance 2x4gb 1600Mhz RAM....trying to boot of M4 128 SSD.

Thanks!

Have you tried clearing the cmos and trying it again. there is a cmos clear on the back of the boards i/o panel. Switch the pc off and hold it in for a couple of seconds, Then see if it will boot from the usb device or dvd drive. Are you using the front i/o panel usb ports or the back of the board usb ports? Thanks

Nope haven't tried clearing the CMOS...will try that. Out of curiosity, why would it need to be cleared? What is stored in it at this point that could/would be causing these issues....Guess I'm not totally clear on what is stored in the CMOS.

Using the front USB ports, the bios recognizes that the Drive is there also...it just won't boot from it...unless it is NOT the windows install data.

Here's one thing to check ... Only have the SSD you are installing windows to connected , not any other drives!
That can confuse a windows install sometimes ... reconnect the other one after you are booting up properly.

I have the same motherboard myself .. the PRO version and everything went smoothly for me!

By the way , you say you have read about a bunch of problems with this motherboard? Can you expand on that a bit .. what problems do you mean?

Sooo, no good news, removed the battery cleared the CMOS, no change. Booted with only one drive connected, still won't boot from the Windows install DVD or USB drive. Tried the front and back port. Yes the DVD was set to 1st boot priority.

Pikey, I've just read some complaints about the board when it was first released, people having lots of different troubles with it, look at the newegg reviews, particularly those that gave it a 1 star....not that they represent everyone, but you can get an idea of the problems.

At this point I'm not sure what else to do, except throw my old mobo back in. This one doesn't seem to be DOA to me, anyone else think otherwise?

Thanks

Try removing all the other storage drives. Leave only the SSD.

Tried that too...just read on the egg that some guys previous SATA cable didn't work, he had to use the one that came with the board...going to try that now.

Edit: F&*%^*&% that didn't work either. What the hell is wrong with this thing. I can boot up paragon just fine also, but I can't book into the driver disk or the win7 disk. Tried switching from AHCI to IDE just for the hell of it...no luck. Could the SSD be the problem? I have an older caviar blue laying around...should I install that and see if it works?
