stripe size?

Thread Starter
what is the affect of stripe size on performance and reliability?
what is the most suggested stripe size for gamers?
what is the risk i take if i set a very low stripe size ?
is there a noticable change of performance between a 128k array and a 16k array?
what stripe size should i set for 2x80Gb maxtor diamondmax 10 sata2?

U got to many questions at a time, shoku. be cool and take your time. take it easy.
The best strip size "for performance" is obviously the most little one. but it stresses the hdd-s a little bit. that's my opinion so it isn't a factious rule.
by the way i have just posted a new thread of beep error codes. can u give me any orientation.

I went with a 64k stripe if I remember correctly.

the best size for performance is different for each person and how you use your computer. If you move lots of large files around (think audio/video editing) then you'll want larger stripe sizes. If you only work with small files like word documents and games then you'd want a smaller stripe size. If you do a bit of both then somewhere in between would work a little better for you.

I've heard the higher the stripe the better.

128 and if your mobo supports it, 256.

you set the stripe size in the mobo RAID config utility. just follow the directions in your mobo manual. It's pretty easy.

Make sure you've got your floppy drive w/ your RAID drivers.
