That would be my choice, between the single core<$100 processors

I also recommend a 3700+

Very cheap and the San Diego overclocks really well, with a good board of course

Thread Starter
Thanks for all the suggestions...I am going to go with the Opty 146...Not really worried about mad overclocking...Just want good performance...

I also just realized that I am going to need a new PSU because the one I have is on 20 pin and I have only seen 24 pin boards...Can someone recommend me a 24 pin PSU that is good or a good 20 pin mobo...

Out of the two you picked I would go with the Opteron 146, that being said, I think you should take a close look at the 3700+ as suggested. Get a good stepping and you will see clocks as high as 146 if not higher. Also, it has a higher multiplier then the Opteron 146 which will give you more options as to how you want to overclock it when taking into consideration ram and such (not to mention a higher stock speed). Ofcourse, the 3700+ also has tighter cache timings and such, which will also improve performance (though I would imagine in most cases the performance increase will be neglible). I say go with the 3700+, get yourself a nice cooler, and aim for the 3.0!

The Fortron FX 600 powersupply is extremely quiet and very powerful. Out of all the powersupplies I have purchased and used, I won't go back to anything but the FX 600 and 700

***EDIT

Performance wise, the 3700 would have beaten the 146 :-\\ (2.0 vs 2.2...same 1meg cache)...and 6 bucks cheaper

Single core, like said, go the less expensive 3700+, the "ADA3700BNBOX" have been OCing very well lately!
Not doing SLI, the DFI Ultra D works very well, just get a good PS and be done with it! 20pin is not the way to go.

How so, both the 146 and 3700 have 1meg L2. Or did you mean between the opteron and 3800?

Go w/the 3700+, 2.2ghz and 1mb l2cache. Also it's only 93$ & free shipping.

Lately the 3700+'s have been doing just as good if not better than opterons w/the OC. Only some of the rare opterons would be worth going with. I haven't seen anybody not beenable to hit atleast 2.7 with a 3700+, my stepping is kab2e 0551 EPAW and I can go up to 2860 completely stable.
