What the heck is that second chip just left of the ram?, is that a second core?, physics processor?, memory controller?.......I dont see my Zalman VF900 heatsink fitting on this at all (unless thats a heatspreader over the core).
I believe regardless of what people are claiming these cards are going to require some serious PSU power. How do i know this? I've had an in-depth discussion with Doug Dodeson of PCPower&Cooling and his TurboCool 1KW-SR PSU was designed with this genre of videocards and quad-core CPU's in mind. In fact these units are being used by companies to test these cards where other PSU's have failed. The cards certainly draw more then the ATX 12V power Supply Guide limit at 18A per, and the Turbo-Cool 1KW-SR at 78A on it's dual 12V-proprietary transformers, is as one of your more astute members stated, "the only PSU able to run these cards in SLI" To think a 450W PSU can power these cards and a quadcore CPU is assinine.
You can't drive a Pentium 930 with 7800GTX cards in SLI without a 750W PSU because I've tried numerous 650W PSU's from respectable companies whose 12VRails jump around like a three-legged dog in a flea scratching contest (to quote myself) and eventually end up re-booting. Sure Conroe is a low Wattage CPU but when there's 4-cores not to mention the AMD future silicon which will draw more wattage then the infamous Intel 130W Smithfeild core no 450W PSU on the planet will power these cards out of 2D mode.
bout the small chips it's an I/O RAMDAC chip. From the Inquirer it's a "Nvidia NVIO chip. It provides dual 400MHz RAMDAC and Dual - Dual Link DVI output, TV Out and HDCP."
