Q. How does this licensing policy affect products such as Microsoft Windows XP Professional?

A. Microsoft Windows XP Professional and Microsoft Windows XP Home are not affected by this policy as they are licensed per installation and not per processor. Windows XP Professional can support up to two processors regardless of the number of cores on the processor. Microsoft Windows XP Home supports one processor.
http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/h...multicore.mspx
that doesnt say however it supports more than one core.
If you look down the page you find that home doesnt support it though(or atleast that what they make it seem.)http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p...choosing2.mspx

No, it XP Home can use it just fine.

No, you shouldn't have to reformat. I didn't have to.

i went from the 3000+ winchester to the x2 3800+ all you need to do is pop in the new chip ,clear your cmos , boot up and download the dual core patch http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/..._13118,00.html and your good to go pro is already dual core optimized
