I have a P5WD2 Premium, what proccessor should I upgrade to?

Thread Starter
I have a Pentium D 830 right now in my rig. I'm wanting to do an upgrade on this thing and think the best move at the moment is my proccessor. I have a 7800GTX video card, Good ram I forget what kind it is hehe... I think it was Corsair XMS. I'd have to pop them out and check, stock speed is 667 if I recall correctly (I'm a bit out the loop since my build about a year ago ).

Anyway, from what I think the weakest link is my CPU. I got a few hundred bucks I can throw down on a new CPU. What would you reccomend? PC is about ready to get OC'd with the gear I have right now. I never really messed with it though because I read alot about the 800 series running super hot, so I didnt chance it. Plus this PC does rip as it sits right now , but could be faster.

Give me some ideas. Thanks guys.

EDIT: This proccessor looks like it might be a nice upgrade: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116247

intel core 2 duo e6600 its 315 at newegg but it is the best performance/value for the money dont pay attention the ghz the process is ultra fast and does more with less, i waisted my money on a pentium d 950 is it still dosent compare to even the 6400, and it dosent oc well but that also ties in with my mobo not being a good ocer for intel, but i am saving/paying off my credit cards untill i can afford a 6600, BUT rumor has it quad cores are coming out soon so wait for those and the core 2 duo's should drop in price

WIth your board any of the Pentium D 9XX chips should work great for you, Id recomend the 945 3.4 dual core. Anyways just make sure your bios is updated so it can support the 9XX chips.
